PURPOSE: Update to procedure for oil sump removal & reinstallation
In order to aid service centers in repair of the oil sump reseal, updates have been provided through our
powertrain partners. Oil pan (or Oil sump) bolts are not to be re-used. These are one time use only
(aluminum screws may only be used once) and new bolt should be sourced at a local dealership (Fig.1
and Fig.1 a). The required items are “ASA-Bolts” and the recommended sealant listed below.

As always rack the vehicle safely, record all radio settings, and disconnect the 12V (fig.2) and remove
the MSD (Fig.3) from the HV battery (found under the rear LH seat cushioin). Drain the vehicle engine
oil for this procedure, replace the engine oil filter and related seals.

Refer the workshop manual to aid in lowering the front subframe, removing the center exhaust, and
follow the supplementary instructions provided here for oil sump replacement.

For the oil sump fasteners be sure to use the correct E torx sockets, E10 and E12.
The flex plate dust cover is attached and can be remove for best access. (T30 socket)

Remove the center exhaust, and lower and set aside the subframe and steering rack. Access to all the
oil sump fasteners is available now. (Fig 4 and 4a)

oil sump.

When separating the sump from the engine block, it can only be loosened from areas the opening is
present in the sump (Fig 7 and 7a). Work a pry bar in this area as shown (Fig 8).

Title: Oil Sump Replacement procedure update

Clean the surface of the sump, this surface on the engine and sump must be free of oil, grease and
any cleaning agent. Once clean and free of material apply the bead of sealant. The following is performed when the bottom gear case cover in not replaced.

Apply the sealing compound (Loctite 5970) in area marked (1, in Fig.8)
Make sure that the sealing bead runs along the inner edge.
The oil return duct must be completely encircled.
Installation note:
The oil sump must be installed approximately 10 minutes after sealant is applied.
Sealant bead height approximately 2 to 2.5 mm.

Place the sump into position and fasten the bolts in the order shown (Fig. 9). All aluminum material
screws are one time use, as per manufacturer.

M8 x 30 bolts are torqued to 8Nm + 90° (perimeter bolts)
M8 X 110 are torqued to 8Nm + 180° (bolts passing through deeper pan sections)
Drain plug is 25 NM
