Summary
On some vehicles, an engine oil leak from the rear of the engine at the turbocharger drain back tube could be be confused as an oil leak from behind the bell housing. The bolt holes for the drain back tube to the block are drilled through to the inside of the engine and thread sealer was not properly applied to the bolts threads, causing oil to leak past the threads. NOTE: The WSM was updated to show these bolts are a to be replaced if removed. New bolts will have thread sealer already applied.

DESCRIPTION
On some vehicles, an engine oil leak from the rear of the engine at the turbocharger drain back tube could be be
confused as an oil leak from behind the bell housing. The bolt holes for the drain back tube to the block are drilled
through to the inside of the engine and thread sealer was not properly applied to the bolts threads, causing oil to leak
past the threads.
NOTE:
• The WSM was updated to show these bolts are a to be replaced if removed.
• New bolts will have thread sealer already applied.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify customer concerns.
• If the leak comes from the turbocharger drain back tube, go to step 2.
• If the leak does not comes from the turbocharger drain back tube, proceed with normal repair.
2: Replace the bolts and gasket.
NOTE:
• Bolt holes and gasket surface must be cleaned from residual oil and sealer before reassembly.
• Bolts have thread sealer and must be replaced.
• Catalytic converter removal is required to access the turbocharger drain back tube. Refer to Catalytic converter
removal/installation H3T

Tightening torque: 95 in-lbs (11 Nm, (97kg-cm)
