DESCRIPTION
The center ceiling above the overhead bunk on Grand Star Super C coaches may become
unsecured over time.
ISSUE
The ceiling needs to be secured for optimal fit and finish.
UNITS AFFECTED
Please refer to the attached population list for affected units and VINs.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Follow the attached instructions to remove the upper bunk ceiling to access the top of the wood
frame and add brackets. Add five (5) 4” long pieces of 1 x 1-1/2” alum angle (Newmar Part
#10956) to the top of the wood frame above the window. These pieces will be attached to the
cap using Sika Fast 3121 glue (Newmar Part #110841).

If your dealership does not have the gun for the Sika fast. Contact Newmar parts dept and one
can be shipped to you. The Dealership will be charged for the gun and credited when the gun
is returned.
IMPORTANT: Please read this bulletin in its entirety prior to beginning any diagnosis or repairs.

Securing Overhead Bunk Ceiling
Remove the overhead bunk mattress, as well as any other items from the bunk area.
Cover the bunk floor with plastic or a drop cloth. This will make clean-up faster and easier, as well as
ensure the Sika Fast adhesive does not damage the finished bunk area.
Pull the overhead lights and vents out, and disconnect them from the top ceiling panel above the bunk
area. Set them aside for reinstallation later.
Move insulation out of the way for the brackets (as needed).
Prep brackets by drilling 7/32” holes on one side of the 1-inch side of the 1-1/2x 1 angle for the screws
attaching the bracket to the wood structure. Make sure the brackets are clean and oil-free. Review the
pictures for correct bracket placement.
Mark the locations where brackets will be fastened to the fiberglass, ensuring the old adhesive does not
prevent the bracket from contacting the cap/wood. Remove and/or clean where needed (if at all).
Load the glue in the gun, and install a mixer tip. Do not squeeze out epoxy until ready to use.
When ready, squeeze a decent-sized puddle on a throw-away piece of cardboard to ensure the mix has
made it through the tip and is mixed well. You will only have a few minutes before the mixture hardens in
the mixer tube (3 to 5 minutes), so you need to be ready to use the epoxy. If it hardens, you will need to
put on a new mixer tip, and then repeat the process.
If the wood came loose already from the adhesive holding it to the cap (do not remove the center ceiling
portion that goes around the window), put a bead of Sika Fast on the wood along the top (no need to
remove old epoxy), and lift the wood structure back up into place. Prop up the entire center ceiling
section, bracing it at the top near each bracket without creating vinyl damage from the prop(s).
If necessary, the manual privacy bunk shade and valance(s) may be removed for additional clearance. If
the wood structure is still adhered with Sika Fast, skip to the next step.
Apply an adequate amount of Sika Fast to the fiberglass cap where the brackets are to be installed,
allowing it to push out around the sides of the bracket. Set the brackets in place and install screws into
the wood. If props were used, remove them after the Sika Fast has hardened.
Note: Sika Fast is fully cured in one hour. Take a picture of the brackets installed to submit with the claim.
Reinstall the insulation, top cover, lights, vents, and screw covers that were previously removed, and test
the operation of each.
Clean up, install the bunk mattress, and any other items that were removed at the start of the process.
