Customer states:

The steering wheel makes creaking noises when the driver grasps it at the bottom.

Workshop findings:

The noise is caused by the lower steering wheel trim. You can view a short clip demonstrating the sound at

Technical Background

Lubricant was not applied to the contact surfaces between the trim and the steering wheel when the trim was fitted.

Production Solution
From September/2025.

Service

Lubricate the contact surfaces of the trim with G 052 172 M2 on both sides as shown.

Proceed as follows:

1. Remove airbag

Observe the instructions and safety information in ElsaPro.

2. Remove upper steering wheel trim (item 6, Figure 4)
Unscrew the four securing bolts for trim.

Carefully unclip the trim from the steering wheel.

3. Remove lower steering wheel trim (item 7, Figure 4)
Carefully unclip the lower trim.

4. Apply lubricant

Apply lubricant to the locations indicated on the following photos.

Make sure only to apply it to these locations.
