Customer states:
+ There is a tail lamp warning displayed in the instrument cluster. When actuating the turn signal, the indicator in
the instrument cluster may flash more quickly.
Workshop findings:
The complaint can be reproduced in the workshop. The following entries are logged in the event memory for the
convenience electronics (diagnostic address 0046):
+ B16D431 - “Left tail lamp 1, no signal" and/or "B16D413 - Left tail lamp 1, open circuit"
and/or
+ B16D631 — “Right tail lamp 1, no signal" and/or "B16D613 - Right tail lamp 1, open circuit"
and/or
+ B16D531 — ‘Left tail lamp 2, no signal" and/or "B16D513 - Left tail lamp 2, open circuit"
and/or
+ _B16D731 — “Right tail lamp 2, no signal" and/or "B16D713 - Right tail lamp 2, open circuit"
Technical Background
The diagnostic software is too sensitive.
Production Solution
New software installed in the tail lamps for production.
Service
The software of the tail lights must be updated on this vehicle. Explain to the customer that various control units
must be reconfigured after the software update to ensure that they function correctly in conjunction with other control
units in the vehicle. Components which have been retrofitted in the vehicle but have not been entered in the vehicle
equipment list via feedback documentation (version compare) to the SVM may not function correctly after the
configuration process. Ask the customer whether they have had non-genuine components retrofitted on the vehicle

or modifications carried out by third parties (e.g. tuning) or are aware of any such retrofits or modifications. Inform
the customer that, if non-genuine retrofits or modifications have been carried out on the vehicle by third parties,
neither AUDI AG nor your own company will accept liability for any damage that may be caused by updating the
software, or by failing to do so.

1. It is possible to have one or more of the above faults stored for the tail lamp(s). Inspect the harness
connection and the condition of the faulted tail lamp(s) before proceeding. If there is any damage to the lamp,
pins, connector, or wiring, repair the damage first and then reevaluate.

2. If there is no damage found, Then follow the update instructions below.

3. Follow all instructions in TSB 2011732: 00 Software Version Management (SVM), operating instructions.

Update the comfort system central control module, J393 (address word 0046) using the SVM action code as listed in
the table below, if necessary:
This SVM code flashes the tail lamps only. Tail lamps are a sub-address of convenience electronics, J393
(address word 0046).
