EV CHARGING PERFORMANCE + DISPLAY SOFTWARE UPDATE
CERTAIN 2023 RZ450e
Update 04/10/2025
Operation flow chart, head unit software version notes, ECU calibration ID table, added ECU
calibration check sheet, updated link for non-HUD ECU CUW files.

The repair quality of covered vehicles is extremely important to Lexus. All dealership
technicians performing this software update are required to successfully complete the most
current version of the E-Learning course “Safety Recall and Service Campaign Essentials”.
To ensure that all vehicles have the repair performed correctly, technicians performing this
repair are required to have completed the following course:
- LIC206A - Electrical Repair 1
It is the dealership’s responsibility to select technicians that have completed the above
courses to perform this repair. Carefully review your resources, the technician skill level,
and ability before assigning technicians to this repair. It is important to consider technician
days off and vacation schedules to ensure there are properly trained technicians available
to perform this repair at all times.

II. IDENTIFICATION OF AFFECTED VEHICLES
1. Check the TIS Vehicle Inquiry System to confirm the VIN is involved in this Software update,
and that it has not already been completed prior to dealer shipment or by another dealer.
2. TMS warranty will not reimburse dealers for repairs completed on vehicles that are not
affected or were completed by another dealer.

IV. VEHICLE SYSTEM SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
CRITICAL INFORMATION - READ THOROUGHLY
An ECU could be damaged if an error occurs in the communication while reprogramming the ECU.
Confirm all work is performed as described in these instructions prior to starting any software update.
1. CHECK THE VEHICLE BATTERY / CHARGE IF THE VOLTAGE IS LOW
a. Turn IG on by pressing the START button two times without pressing the brake pedal.
b. Turn off as many electrical load systems and devices as possible.
i. Exterior lighting
ii. Interior lighting (ensure that no light comes on, even if a door is opened by setting
the dome lights to “off”
iii. Heating and Air conditioning system should be turned off
iv. Audio and navigation systems
v. Seat belt warning system (this can be turned off by buckling the seatbelt of the
driver seat without sitting in the seat)
vi. Turn off seat heater/vent and defrosters
vii. Auto wiper system
viii. Additional/aftermarket accessories (remote engine starter, security system, etc.)
c. Test the vehicle auxiliary 12v battery keeping the IG on condition after 1 minute of
leaving with the IG on. Check if it has auxiliary 12v or more of voltage. In case the
battery is weak (below 12v), charge it before reprogramming.
NOTICE:
If the ECU is reprogrammed with the battery voltage low, the battery voltage will decrease further
even though the battery is attached to a charger. This will disable the reprogramming process
and may require the replacement of the ECU.
• When using the battery tester, it must be directly connected to the battery terminal of the
vehicle.
DO NOT use the support terminal, as it may be affected by the wiring resistance,
resulting in inaccurate measurements.
2. Connect the DCA-8000P Battery Diagnostic Tool.
NOTICE:
To prevent the ECUs from being damaged, the charging voltage must be maintained between 12
to 14.8V.

HINT:
The required charging current that prevents the power voltage from dropping while
reprogramming ECUs varies depending on the vehicle. For example, if the power consumption is
14A while the IG is ON, the charging current needs to be 15A.

V. BACKGROUND
A software update has been developed for certain 2023 model year RZ450e. The
enhancements include improvements of the DC-charging performance, visualization of the
remaining range, current state of charge (SOC), and real-life energy consumption.

VI. CHECK THE SOFTWARE VERSION OF THE MULTIMEDIA SYSTEM

Note: This step is only for vehicles with HUD.
A HUD vehicle is easily identified by looking on the top of the dashboard for the projector unit.

1. Start the vehicle as in prep for normal driving and confirm the “READY ON” status.
2. Tap the setting icon on the menu screen to display the “settings” screen.

3. Scroll within setting screen to the bottom and tap “Software update”
4. Tap the "Model info" on the “Settings” screen and check the software version information.

5. Scroll down to the bottom of the list and see “MT SW” (Meter Software) model version.
HINT:
Vehicles W/O HUD, "MT" is not displayed.

DOWNLOAD THE MULTIMEDIA SOFTWARE UPDATE TO USB MEMORY
IMPORTANT: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO UPDATE/COMMUNICATE WITH THE VEHICLE VIA
GTS+ WHILE UPDATING THE HUD SOFTWARE.
If the software update of the HUD is interrupted, it may disable the reprogramming
process and may require the replacement of the ECU.
1. Download the software update .zip file and store it in the root folder of a USB memory
stick.

NOTICE:
• The USB memory stick must be formatted as FAT16or32.
• USB memory capacity must be between 2GB and 32GB.
• The maximum capacity of the USB memory is 32GB. There is a possibility that it will not
be recognized if of greater capacity.
• The USB memory must be entirely blank prior to adding the file above, only the file above
can be on the device.
• When you download the software, DO NOT change the filename or filename extension.
• (DO NOT unzip the .zip file)

VIII. UPDATE THE MULTIMEDIA SYSTEM SOFTWARE

1. The multimedia system software will be updated using the USB memory prepared in step
VII.
2. Start the EV by depressing the brake, POWER button and confirm READY ON.
3. Check for “ACC customize” setting and make sure it is turned ON.
i. Tap “Setting”-> “Utility” -> “Vehicle customize”

NOTICE:
When changing the settings, make sure to return the settings to their previous state after the
software update is complete.
1. Insert the USB memory into the USB port with the USB symbol on it which is the furthest
most to the right.

**If you do not have a USB C memory drive, you can use a USB A type with a USB A to USB C
adapter.

2. Please wait three to four minutes while the system reads the USB. You will see the image
below on the screen.

“Software update available” will flash on the screen for a few seconds.

3. Update the software
a. Tap the setting menu and then tap the Software update. You will notice there are now
“updates available”

b. Accept the terms of service.

HINT:
Content displayed on the update available, and terms of service screens is not displayed
appropriately in the case of USB reprogramming. However, continue the procedure.
c. Now you will see a status bar showing the progress of the software update.

NOTICE:
Do not disconnect the USB memory or start any other process with the vehicle during
reprograming.
This installation will take approximately 40 minutes to complete. Please maintain battery voltage
between 12v-14.8v during this reprograming time.
Complete the software update with the EV system started and the parking brake applied.
Do not operate the multi-display, or press any related buttons, as the software update could be
suspended, or canceled. The multi-display response may become noticeably worse.
If the above steps are not carefully followed there could be damage to the Combination Meter
Assy and error code 201 or 202 may be displayed.

d. When the status bar has completed, you will see the screen below. Leave the USB inserted.

e. Cycle the power button to off and wait 60 seconds.
The message below will briefly show on the screen after restart. This is normal. Do not
remove the USB memory.

f. Power on the vehicle using the standard process to start the vehicle and confirm “Ready On”
Wait about one minute, then navigate to “Settings” -> “Software update” and you will
see the screen below.

HINT:
When it is not displayed, confirm the software version has been updated in the following
procedures.
An update complete report output notification may be displayed, and an update complete report
(a file with a json extension) may be created in the USB memory device. Delete this file as it is
unnecessary.
g. Check that the “Model info” button to confirm the software version.

h. Scroll all the way to the bottom and verify the “Version” of the “MT SW”. The “Version”
should read “6001” after the update.

4. Turn IG off. The software update for the multimedia system is now complete. Remove the
USB memory and proceed to next step.

IX.

PREPARATION BEFORE ECU REPROGRAMING

1. To perform the ECU reprogramming, it is necessary to reinstall the D/C CUT FUSE (30A)
stored in the blank space of Relay Block in the original location as shown in the
illustration. This operation is only applicable if the vehicle has not been Pre-Delivery
Serviced.
HINT:
If the D/C CUT FUSE (30A) is already installed, no action is required.

2. Be sure to connect a GTS+ to an
external AC power supply.

The ECU could be damaged if the battery
voltage of the personal computer drops
while reprogramming.
