VENTILATOR LEVER INSPECTION & REPLACEMENT

SUBJECT:

Description: Certain Elantra (CN7 and CN7A) vehicles may experience the following conditions:
•

Lack of airflow coming from the forward-facing center vents
Mode actuator not changing airflow direction after various inputs
Popping/snap noise when switching between different modes

If any of the conditions above exist, follow the repair procedure in this bulletin to replace the ventilator
lever.
Applicable Vehicles:
• 2021–2024MY Elantra (CN7) produced 12/24/2020 – 11/28/2023 (VIN starts with ‘KMH’)
• 2021–2023MY Elantra (CN7A) produced 09/25/2020 – 05/25/2023 (VIN starts with ‘5NP’)

! CAUTION
Wear gloves to prevent hand injuries when removing parts.

NOTICE
• Use a plastic trim removal tool to prevent damage to interior trim when removing components.
• Replace any damaged clips or pin-type retainers.

Turn ON the A/C or heater.

Set the airlow to floor mode (A) only.

Change the mode actuator to the forwardfacing vent mode (B) and verify if airflow is
coming from the center vents.

• If there is airflow out of the center vents, but
other concerns are present, this TSB does
NOT apply. Diagnose and repair per the
shop manual.
• If NO airflow is present from the forwardfacing center vents, or a popping/snap
noise is heard when switching modes,
replace the ventilator lever.
Proceed to Ventilator Lever Replacement.

Use a trim removal tool, such as the one
shown (C), to prevent damage to internal
trim and components.

NOTICE
Be sure to replace the existing clips (D)
with new ones when removing or
replacing the front pillar trim
(P/N: 85815-C1100, 82315-2P000).

passenger’s airbag (PAB) connectors (E).

Remove the main crash pad assembly and
locate the mode actuator (F) on the driver’s
side.

Remove the fasteners and remove the mode
door actuator (F) and cam mode guide (G).

Remove the ventilator lever screw (H) and
remove the ventilator lever arm (I).

Remove the screw and washer (J) from the old
ventilator lever and place it onto the new part
and reinstall the new ventilator lever onto the
HVAC box.

Using STUI, take a photo of the OLD
ventilator lever arm with the last 6
digits of the VIN and the date of repair
on a piece of paper.
Upload the photo to STUI.

Before reinstalling the mode actuator and
guide, inspect the position of the floor door
lever (K).

If the floor door lever is horizontal as shown
(NG), then correct the position by pushing the
lever downward as shown in the second photo
(GOOD).

Reinstall the cam mode guide and actuator in
the reverse order of removal.

Reinstall the main crash pad in the reverse
order of removal.

NOTICE
• Make sure the crash pad fits onto the
guide pins correctly.
• Before tightening the bolts, make sure
the crash pad wire harnesses are NOT
pinched.
• Make sure the connectors are plugged
in properly, and the antenna lead is
connected properly.
• Make sure that each of the assembly
components operates properly.
• Replace any damaged clips or pin type retainers (crash pad side cover
clip P/N: 84747-3Y000)

Reinstall all components in the reverse order
of removal.

When reinstalling the steering wheel, be
sure to replace the steering wheel lock
bolt (L) with a new one
(P/N: 56115-B1000).
