TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN: VOLUNTARY SERVICE CAMPAIGN: AEWP INSPECTION AND REPLACEMENT (SC325) - This bulletin provides information to inspect and, if necessary, replace the Auxiliary Electric Water Pump (AEWP), control harness wiring, and/or engine room junction box for coolant intrusion and/or corrosion on certain 2023MY Niro Hybrid
(HEV) and Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV), 2023MY Sportage HEV/PHEV, and 2022-2023MY Sorento HEV/PHEV Kia vehicles listed in this bulletin. The AEWP in the subject vehicles may crack internally and allow coolant to intrude into the AEWP circuitry. If coolant enters the AEWP circuitry, the Check Engine Light (CEL) may be illuminated with one or more DTCs listed on page 2. If the vehicle continues to be driven in this condition, the Active Air Flap (AAF) warning message can also activate, and coolant may eventually migrate through the wiring harness to the engine room junction block. This may result in a reduction of motive power and may cause the vehicle to release air pollutants which exceeds Federal and California standards. These standards were established to protect the public health and welfare from the dangers of air pollution.

SUBJECT:
This bulletin provides information to inspect and, if necessary, replace the Auxiliary Electric Water Pump (AEWP),
control harness wiring, and/or engine room junction box for coolant intrusion and/or corrosion on certain 20222023MY Kia Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid vehicles listed in the table below. The AEWP in the subject vehicles may
crack internally and allow coolant to intrude into the AEWP circuitry. If coolant enters the AEWP circuitry, the
Check Engine Light (CEL) may be illuminated with one or more DTCs listed on page 2. If the vehicle continues
to be driven in this condition, the Active Air Flap (AAF) warning message can also activate, and coolant may
eventually migrate through the wiring harness to the engine room junction block. This may result in a reduction
of motive power and may cause the vehicle to release air pollutants which exceeds Federal and California
standards. These standards were established to protect the public health and welfare from the dangers of air
pollution. Follow the procedure outlined in this publication to inspect for a related DTC(s) stored and coolant
leaking into the AEWP harness wiring connector on the applicable vehicle. Depending on the inspection result,
replacement of the AEWP may be required, along with possible Control Harness wiring and PCB block assembly.
Before conducting the procedure, verify that the vehicle is included in the list of affected VINs.

Control Harness (Engine Room) Wiring Replacement: (MQ4/NQ5 P/HEV)
IMPORTANT
One (1) of the MQ4 HEV Control Harness Part Numbers is currently unavailable. If an MQ4 HEV
vehicle requires the replacement of the unavailable control harness part number, the vehicle will
need to be parked until the replacement part number is available.
1.
Remove the following parts by referring to the
applicable shop manual on KGIS:
•
Air Cleaner Assembly (A)
•
Hybrid Power Control Unit (HPCU) (B)
Tightening torque for HPCU bolts:
14.5 – 21.7 lb.ft (19.6 – 29.4 N.m)
2.
Remove the control harness (C) (shown in
green) from the engine room by disconnecting
all related connectors and grounds from the
engine components.
3.
Disconnect the control harness (C) from the
junction block and remove the control harness
assembly.
4.
Install the new control harness (C) assembly in
the reverse order of removal.

Remove the coolant reservoir cap (A).
2.
Drain the hybrid motor coolant by removing
the drain plug (B).
3.
Remove the following parts by referring to the
applicable shop manual on KGIS:

Remove the control harness (C) (shown in
green) from the engine room by disconnecting
all related connectors and grounds from the
engine components.
