to another person or company, you are required by Federal Law to forward a copy of this notice to the lessee by
first class mail within ten (10) days of the receipt of this notice.

Service Information Letter SIL- 3175-A
Pedestal Weld Inspection and Repair
Units Affected: Certain DC and DM model derricks built from January 2019 to June 2024. Verify your
unit is affected by reviewing the attached list or accessing Altec Connect.
Background: Altec has learned that the affected units could have improper weld fusion. This means the
welds could fail, causing a crack.
Customer Action: Visually inspect the pedestal welds according to the Inspection Procedure beginning
on page 2 within 60 of days from receipt of this notice to determine if the unit can remain in service.
Contact Altec or a qualified third-party within 6 months to schedule Magnetic Particle Testing, detailed on
page 3. A Welding Repair, if required, must be completed directly after the Magnetic Particle Testing as
detailed on page 5. Warranty for this repair expires January 10, 2028.
Email [email protected] to schedule both the magnetic particle test and repair procedure, if required, to be completed by the SIL-3175 Field Team. The team will respond within 5 business days.
Subsequent damage due to failure to perform the required action(s) in the time period allowed will not be
covered by warranty.
Ask your service provider to check for any outstanding notices at your next appointment.
Requirements: Due to the specialized magnetic particle inspection and repair procedures, Altec Service
is unable to complete this work. All work must be scheduled through the SIL-3175 Field Team or a qualified third party provider.
The visual inspection is estimated to take less than 10 minutes and one person to complete. There is no
warranty for the visual inspection. Magnetic particle testing is estimated to take one hour and one person
to complete. At a minimum, magnetic particle testers must be ASNT level 2 Certified in MT.
The repair is estimated to take 5 hours and two people to complete. All welds must be applied by a welder
having the AWS D1.1 3G qualification for uphill progression welding on steel using one of the following
approved methods.
• FCAW-G—gas shielded flux core wire (E71T-1M/9M)
• FCAW-S—gasless self-shielded flux core wire (E71T-8-H8)
• SMAW—stick electrode (E7018 H4R)

Completion and Warranty: The magnetic particle testing and repair are covered under the Altec Warranty Policy until January 10, 2028 and can be performed by the SIL-3175 Field Team, the customer, or
the customer’s warranty provider who meet the qualification criteria. There is no warranty for the visual
inspection. Altec will perform the work for free with the SIL-3175 Field Team. If the customer or the customer’s warranty provider performs the work, a warranty claim must be submitted to be reimbursed for
the cost of the parts and/or labor. Altec will allow up to $90 for the labor to perform the inspection and up
to $900 for the labor to perform the repair.
If the SIL-3175 Altec Field Team, scheduled through [email protected] comes to your location,
there is no travel charge for the first visit and the repair will be completed for free. Canceled or rescheduled visits could result in a travel charge.

Visual Inspection Procedure: No tools are required for this inspection.
1. Read and understand all steps of the instructions before beginning the procedure. Wear appropriate
personal protective equipment (PPE) following your employer’s requirements.
2. Position the unit on a level surface, apply the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Remove the key
from the ignition, and secure it following your employer’s vehicle lockout/tagout procedure. Chock
the wheels.
3. Clear the vehicle bed of any objects that would obstruct access to the pedestal. Use safe lifting practices.
4. Inspect the pedestal welds for any visible cracks, paying particular attention to the curved area (refer to Figure 1). This is the same inspection that
would be completed as part of the Preoperational Inspection in the Operator’s Manual and the 500 PTO Hours/6 Months preventive maintenance
inspection as indicated in the unit’s Maintenance Manual.
a. Complete this inspection on all sides of the pedestal.
b. Review the inspection results.
• Visibly cracked — the unit must be removed from service pending
evaluation. Take photos of all cracked welds. Proceed to step 5.
• No visible cracks — the unit must be scheduled for magnetic particle testing. Proceed to step 6.

5. Weld evaluation is required.
Visual Inspection
a. Take the unit out of service until the weld has been evaluated by Altec.
b. Email the photos of all cracked welds to [email protected].
• Include the unit serial number, the truck’s physical location, and your contact information.
Make sure weld evaluation is in the email subject line.
• Altec will respond within 1 business day.
• Altec will schedule the repair or relay information for the customer to complete the repair with
a qualified third party. The unit is to remain out of service until the repair is complete.
c. Do not complete the remaining steps in this procedure.

6. Magnetic particle testing is required.
a. Put the unit back into service.
b. Perform the Visual Inspection Procedure during pre-operational inspections until the magnetic
particle test is complete.
c. Arrange for magnetic particle testing with a qualified individual using one of the methods below.
• Contact [email protected] to schedule the work to be done by Altec. Include the unit
serial number, the truck’s physical location, and your contact information.
• Contact your own technician or your third party provider to complete the test. Have them complete the Magnetic Particle Testing Procedure included with this document.
d. Do not complete the Inspection Sheet at the end of this notice.
Magnetic Particle Testing: Read and understand all steps of the instructions before beginning the procedure. An individual with ASNT level 2 Certified in MT is required for this test. Photos of the test results
are required for warranty approval. If testing indicates a defect, a welding repair must be completed before
the unit is returned to service.
1. Read and understand all steps of the instructions before beginning the procedure. Wear appropriate
personal protective equipment (PPE) following your employer’s requirements.
2. Position the unit on a level surface, apply the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Remove the key
from the ignition, and secure it following your employer’s vehicle lockout/tagout procedure. Chock
the wheels.
3. Remove any accessory brackets that will interfere with the magnetic particle test on the curved welds shown in Figure 2. Complete this on every
side of the pedestal.
4. Clean the pedestal welds using a degreaser or appropriate cleaning solution. Allow the area to dry completely.
5. On all sides of the pedestal, remove any non-standard, thick paint such as
MarTex, gator hide, or similar from the area shown in Figure 2. Any standard paint does not need to be removed.
6. Inspect the welds shown in Figure 2 with a magnetic particle inspection
tool. Complete this test on all sides of the pedestal.

7. If magnetic particle testing indicates a defect of fusion at either toe of the weld bead, use a permanent
marker to mark the area plus 2 inches on each side as shown in Figure 3.
8. During this test take pictures of the following. These are required for warranty approval.
• Magnetic particle inspection results on front side (closest to cab)
• Magnetic particle inspection results on street side
• Magnetic particle inspection results on rear side
• Magnetic particle inspection results on curb side
• Magnetic particle inspector certification

9. Review the inspection results.
• If magnetic particle testing does not indicate a defect on
any side, no repair is required. Proceed to step 10.
• If magnetic particle testing indicates a defect on any
side, repair is required. Proceed to step 11.

a. Touch up any removed paint/coating, if required.

Service Request and attach the photos to your SR.
e. Do not complete the remaining step in this notice.
11. Repair is required.
a. Arrange for completion of the Welding Repair with a qualified individual.
• Contact [email protected] to schedule the work to be done by Altec. Include the unit
serial number, the truck’s physical location, your contact information, and all photos from step 8.
• Contact your own technician or your third party provider to complete the repair. Have them
complete the Welding Repair included with this document. This requires AWS D1.1 3G qualification for uphill progression welding on steel.
b. Do not complete the Inspection Sheet at the end of this notice.
c. Do not return the unit to service until the welding repair is completed.
• If the unit must be returned to service, a second magnetic particle test is required prior to repair.
No unit functions can be operated after the test and prior to the welding repair. A second test is
not covered under warranty.
• Complete the Visual Inspection Procedure during preoperational inspections until the magnetic
particle test can be completed a second time.

Welding Repair: Read and understand all steps of the instructions before beginning the procedure. All
welds must be applied by a welder having the AWS D1.1 3G qualification for uphill progression welding
on steel using one of the following approved methods.
• FCAW-G—gas shielded flux core wire (E71T-1M/9M) - requires protection from wind/weather
• FCAW-S—gasless self-shielded flux core wire (E71T-8-H8)
• SMAW—stick electrode (E7018 H4R)
The unit functions must not have been operated between the magnetic particle test and this repair. If the
unit functions have been operated since the magnetic particle test, a second test is required and is not covered by warranty.

1. Read and understand all steps of the instructions before beginning the procedure. Wear appropriate
personal protective equipment (PPE) following your employer’s requirements.
2. Position the unit on a level surface, apply the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Remove the key
from the ignition, and secure it following your employer’s vehicle lockout/tagout procedure. Chock
the wheels.
3. Disconnect the chassis battery and any auxiliary batteries.
4. Remove the pedestal access covers and any accessory brackets near the welds and set aside.
5. Remove the driver board bracket, part number 970062302 for DM/DC models (refer to Figure 4) or
part number 991173267 for DM-E models (refer to Figure 5) from the side plate.
a. Remove the mounting bolts.
b. Keep the bolts to reuse during installation.
c. Position the bracket and attached boards in the center of pedestal away from the side walls.
d. Protect the remaining materials and components from welding as required.

6. Make sure hoses and harnesses do not touch the sides of the pedestal. Use zip ties or another retention
method to position them out of the way as required.
7. Mask for welding as required.
8. Remove the weld in area marked during magnetic particle testing. Make sure no parent material is
removed. If multiple sides require repair, only repair one side at a time.
9. Apply welds in accordance with AWS D1.1.
10. Take a photo of the completed weld before completing any paint touch-up. This is required for warranty approval.
11. Repeat steps 8 through 10 for any additional sides that were indicated during magnetic particle testing.
12. Allow welds to cool to 120 F or less for painting.
13. Replace the removed driver board bracket, any external brackets removed for particle testing and
welding, and any tied up hoses and wiring..
14. Clean welds with a degreaser and touch up paint as required.
15. Replace all removed covers.
16. Reconnect batteries.
17. Return the unit to service.
a. Complete the Inspection Sheet at the end of this notice, and return it to Altec. Include all photos
taken in step 7 of the Magnetic Particle Testing and step 10 of the Welding Repair when submitting
for warranty reimbursement on Altec Connect.
b. If the inspection was performed by the SIL-3175 Field Team, mark this notice as complete on the
Service Request and attach the photos to your SR.

Inspection et réparation des soudures du socle
Appareils concernés : Certains derricks des modèles DC et DM construits de janvier 2019 à juin 2024.
Vérifiez que votre appareil est concerné en consultant la liste ci-jointe ou en accédant à Altec Connect.
Contexte : Altec a appris que les appareils concernés pourraient présenter une mauvaise fusion des
soudures. Cela signifie que les soudures peuvent se rompre et provoquer une fissure.
Mesure requise de la part du client : Inspectez visuellement les soudures du socle conformément à
la procédure d’inspection commençant à la page 2 dans les 60 jours suivant la réception du présent avis
pour déterminer si l’appareil peut rester en service.
Contactez Altec ou un tiers qualifié dans les 6 mois pour planifier la magnétoscopie, détaillée à la page 3.
Une réparation des soudures, si nécessaire, doit être effectuée directement après la magnétoscopie comme
détaillé à la page 5. La garantie pour cette réparation expire le 10 janvier 2028.
Envoyez un courriel à [email protected] pour planifier à la fois la magnétoscopie et la procédure
de réparation, si nécessaire, à effectuer par l’équipe de terrain SIL-3175. L’équipe vous répondra dans un

l’inspection visuelle. La magnétoscopie devrait prendre une heure et une personne. Au minimum, les
personnes chargées de la magnétoscopie doivent être certifiées ASNT niveau 2 en MT.
La réparation devrait prendre 5 heures et deux personnes. Toutes les soudures doivent être appliquées

Achèvement et garantie : La magnétoscopie et la réparation sont couvertes par la politique de garantie
d’Altec jusqu’au 10 janvier 2028 et peuvent être effectuées par l’équipe de terrain SIL-3175, le client ou
le fournisseur de garantie du client qui répondent aux critères de qualification. Il n’y a aucune garantie
pour l’inspection visuelle. Altec effectuera les travaux gratuitement avec l’équipe de terrain SIL-3175. Si
le client ou le fournisseur de garantie du client effectue les travaux, une réclamation au titre de la garantie
doit être soumise pour remboursement du coût des pièces et/ou de la main-d’œuvre. Altec autorisera
jusqu’à 90 USD pour la main-d’œuvre nécessaire à l’inspection et jusqu’à 900 USD pour la main-d’œuvre
nécessaire à la réparation.
Si l’équipe de terrain Altec SIL-3175, programmée par le biais de [email protected] se rend
à votre emplacement, il n’y a pas de frais de déplacement pour la première visite et la réparation sera
effectuée gratuitement. Les visites annulées ou reportées pourraient entraîner des frais de déplacement.

Marche à suivre de l’inspection visuelle : Aucun outil n’est requis pour cette inspection.
1. Lisez et comprenez toutes les étapes des instructions avant de commencer la procédure. Portez
un équipement de protection individuelle (EPI) approprié conformément aux exigences de votre
employeur.
2. Placez l’appareil sur une surface de niveau, appliquez le frein de stationnement et coupez le moteur.
Retirez la clé de contact et sécurisez-la en suivant la procédure de verrouillage/étiquetage du véhicule
de votre employeur. Calez les roues.
3. Dégagez la plate-forme du véhicule de tout objet qui pourrait obstruer l’accès au socle. Utilisez des
pratiques de levage sécuritaires.
4. Inspectez les soudures du socle pour détecter toute fissure visible
éventuelle, en accordant une attention particulière à la zone incurvée (voir
la Figure 1). Il s’agit de la même inspection qui serait effectuée dans le cadre
de l’inspection préopérationnelle figurant dans le manuel de l’opérateur et
de l’inspection d’entretien préventif de 500 heures PDM/6 mois comme
indiqué dans le manuel d’entretien de l’appareil.
a. Effectuez cette inspection sur tous les côtés du socle.
b. Passez en revue les résultats de l’inspection.
• Fissures visibles — l’appareil doit être retiré du service en attendant
l’évaluation. Prenez des photos de toutes les soudures fissurées.
Passez à l’étape 5.
• Aucune fissure visible — l’appareil doit être programmé pour une
magnétoscopie. Passez à l’étape 6.

5. Une évaluation des soudures est requise.
a. Mettez l’appareil hors service jusqu’à ce que les soudures aient été évaluées par Altec.
b. Envoyez par courriel les photos de toutes les soudures fissurées à [email protected].
• Incluez le numéro de série de l’appareil, l’emplacement physique du camion et vos coordonnées.
Assurez-vous que le terme « évaluation des soudures » figure dans la ligne de l’objet du courriel.

• Altec répondra dans un délai d’un jour ouvrable.
• Altec planifiera la réparation ou transmettra les informations au client pour qu'il puisse effectuer
la réparation avec un tiers qualifié. L’appareil doit rester hors service jusqu’à ce que la réparation
soit terminée.
c. N’effectuez pas les étapes restantes de cette procédure.
6. Une magnétoscopie est requise.
a. Remettez l’appareil en service.
b. Effectuez la procédure d’inspection visuelle lors des inspections pré-opérationnelles jusqu’à ce
que la magnétoscopie soit terminée.

• Contactez votre propre technicien ou votre fournisseur tiers pour terminer l’essai. Demandezleur de compléter la procédure de magnétoscopie incluse dans ce document.

Magnétoscopie : Lisez et comprenez toutes les étapes des instructions avant de commencer la procédure.
Un individu certifié ASNT niveau 2 en MT est requis pour ce test. Des photos des résultats des tests sont
requises pour l’approbation de la garantie. Si les tests indiquent un défaut, une réparation des soudures
doit être effectuée avant que l’appareil ne soit remis en service.
1. Lisez et comprenez toutes les étapes des instructions avant de commencer la procédure. Portez
un équipement de protection individuelle (EPI) approprié conformément aux exigences de votre
employeur.
2. Placez l’appareil sur une surface de niveau, appliquez le frein de stationnement et coupez le moteur.
Retirez la clé de contact et sécurisez-la en suivant la procédure de verrouillage/étiquetage du véhicule
de votre employeur. Calez les roues.
3. Retirez tous les supports accessoires qui pourraient interférer avec la
magnétoscopie sur les soudures courbes comme illustré à la Figure 2.
Complétez cela sur chaque côté du socle.
4. Nettoyez les soudures du socle à l’aide d’un dégraissant ou d’une solution
de nettoyage adéquate. Laissez la zone sécher complètement.
5. Retirez sur tous les côtés du socle toute peinture épaisse et non standard
telle que MarTex, Gator Hide ou similaire de la zone indiquée sur la
Figure 2. Il n’est pas nécessaire d’enlever la peinture standard.
6. Inspectez les soudures illustrées à la Figure 2 à l’aide d’un outil d’examen
magnétoscopique. Réalisez cet essai sur tous les côtés du socle.

7. Si la magnétoscopie indique un défaut de fusion à l’un ou
l’autre des pieds du cordon de soudure, utilisez un marqueur
permanent pour marquer la zone plus 2 pouces de chaque
côté comme indiqué à la Figure 3.
8. Pendant cet essai, prenez des photos des éléments suivants.
Celles-ci sont nécessaires pour l’approbation de la garantie.
