Bendix Global Scalable Air Treatment (GSAT) system service data. This document is used for diagnostics and troubleshooting guide. System includes electronic air governor, air dryer, and electronic parking brake.

Bobtail Mode: This mode is intended to turn off the
LED of the trailer supply HCU in the event the vehicle is
driven with no trailer and the driver finds the LED to be
distracting. For instructions on how to use this feature,
refer to the OEM service documentation.
NORMAL OPERATING CONDITIONS
Refer to OEM documentation for HCU LED and dash
cluster telltale display status.
The preconditions to enter into vehicle maintenance
mode are:

Vehicle is below the speed threshold.
Next, the user should perform these actions:

Manually unpark the vehicle.

Press and hold the yellow tractor parking switch.

CONFIGURATIONS
There are two (2) configurations for the Bendix® GSAT®
system:
1. Attached: A Bendix
® air dyer and Bendix
® core module
are combined into a single assembly.
2. Detached: A Bendix
(or third-party) air dyer and Bendix®
core module are mounted separately on the vehicle.

Troubleshooting
TROUBLESHOOTING
OPERATIONAL CONDITIONS: FAULTED
If the Bendix
® GSAT® system has a fault, one indicator will
be the LED on the HCU, and the other would be the cluster
telltale and Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) information.
For specific fault details, refer to the Troubleshooting Diagnostic Modes section.
NOTE: Blinking indicates a continuously blinking LED
independent of any driver input (e.g. button push or pull,
ignition cycle, etc.).
DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) AND SERVICE
INFORMATION
If the GSAT system is powered and is faulted, the HCU
LEDs will blink. Loss of features is communicated through
either the vehicle instrument cluster or a standalone
Peripheral Human-Machine Interface (pHMI). Diagnostic
information is available by interfacing with the GSAT
system using the Bendix
® ACom® Diagnostic Software.
This software provides the technician with access to
all available diagnostic information and configuration
capability, including ECU information and DTCs. Refer to
Tables 9 and 10.
OPERATING UNDER FAULTED CONDITIONS
If a fault is set, it may be possible to continue on the
vehicle route or it may be required to stop the vehicle
immediately. Refer to the vehicle dash lamps and the
OEM operator’s manual to determine which action is
appropriate.
Parking with a faulted EPB system requires the following
steps to ensure safety:
•
Stop the vehicle on a level surface and in a safe place.
•
Shut off the engine (key in the off position) and open
the driver-side window so the exhaust of air from the
spring brakes can be heard, which would indicate the
parking brakes being applied.
•
Attempt to park the trailer by pulling the trailer parking
switch (red). Listen for the exhaust of air.
•
Attempt to park the tractor by pulling the tractor parking
switch (yellow). Listen for the exhaust of air.
•
If either the tractor or trailer spring did not apply, key off
the vehicle and “fan down” the reservoirs by repeatedly
depressing the service brake pedal to automatically
apply the spring brakes.
•
Chock the wheels.
•
Remove the vehicle battery power if possible.
If the EPB system is reporting a fault and the vehicle must
be moved for emergency or repair purposes, the vehicle
should be towed per the OEM’s recommendations.
