Subject: Oil pump gear screw - Technical update

Dear Dealer / Service Centre,
Through the ongoing, stringent quality control activities we perform on the components installed
on our vehicles and our continuous research to develop better new technical solutions, in
keeping with our commitment to ensure the best ownership experience possible for the
customer, with this note we wish to inform you of the need to check the tightening of the oil
pump gear screw.

Please determine which vehicles in your stock or sold/serviced by you require this update, and:
•

update all vehicles in stock before sale

•

update vehicles that have already been sold at the first available opportunity.

As usual, for sell-in dealers, the list of chassis numbers involved belonging to your stock is
viewable in the section Campaigns / Campaign Reports of the PWM warranty management
software suite. For all others, the verification of those involved can be carried out by querying
each individual chassis number from the Miscellaneous functions -> PWM Vehicle History
menu.

OPERATING METHOD OF INTERVENTIONS ON THE PWM:
•

From the main menu, select the option “campaigns”, then select the option “Enter
campaigns” from the sub-menu.

•

Enter the chassis number subject to the recall campaign in the window opened.

•

Select “search” to open a window with the available service coupon:
•

Coupon 1 Check oil pump gear screw tightness (OK result): service coupon
that foresees the check the tightening of the oil pump gear screw, the automatic
order of the necessary components (in the countries where this option is foreseen)
and the reimbursement of the materials and labour employed.

•

Coupon 2 Check oil pump gear screw tightness (KO result) and tightening to
torque of the screw: service coupon that foresees the check the tightening of the oil
pump gear screw, the automatic order of the necessary components (in the countries
where this option is foreseen) and the reimbursement of the materials and labour
employed.

•

Select the coupon, compile the “Km” field, and then save the procedure.

•

Once the operation has been completed, it is essential to immediately declare the service
coupon as carried out* in the PWM in order to conclude the intervention and receive a
refund.

•

The coupon that will not be declared "carried out" (by the PWM status management)
within 6 months from the day of entry will be automatically discarded by the system as
NOT CARRIED OUT and will NOT be refunded

ATTENTION
The coupons foresee the mandatory introduction of photographic attachments
(The references of the photos to be attached are indicated in the procedure).

PROCEDURE:
Place the vehicle on the centre stand and proceed to disassemble the side fairings and flywheel
cover, referring to the workshop manual.

Proceed with draining the coolant and engine
oil, then with removing the flywheel cover.

After removing the flywheel cover, mark with a
felt-tip pen the position of the screw in relation
to the oil pump gear.

Use a socket spanner to lock the rotation of the
gear.

Use a torque spanner to tighten the screw to the
prescribed torque of 12 Nm +/- 10%.

If after tightening to 12 Nm +/-10% the screw
has not moved, then the mark is aligned with
the reference on the gear (as in the photo),
insert the service coupon 1 to check the
tightening of the oil pump gear screw (OK
result)attach photos certifying, both before and
after tightening, that the mark remained
aligned.

If, after tightening with the torque spanner, the
screw has rotated relative to the gear, insert the
service coupon 2 to check the tightening of
the oil pump gear screw (KO result) and
torque tightening of the screw and attach
photos certifying that, after tightening, the mark
is not aligned.

Remove pre-impregnated screw No. 1A014410 and clean the screw insertion area to remove
any thread impregnation residue, then re-perform the tightening procedure using a new TE
M7X18 pre-impregnated screw No. 1A014410 and a new spring washer No. 1A014411 to a
torque of 12 Nm +/- 10%.

Once the inspection operations have been completed, replace the water pump cover gasket,
flywheel cover and oil cap gasket and proceed to refill the coolant and lubrication oil as
described in the workshop manual, after which proceed to refit the side fairings.
