Yellow Malfunction Indicator Light Active on the Instrument Cluster / DME Fault Memory

Concerns:

DME control unit

Cause:

Customers complain about a yellow warning message “Engine control fault” on the instrument
cluster with the notice “Driving permitted, visit workshop”.
The following fault memory entry is stored in the fault memory of the DME control unit:

Cause:

P310B00 – low fuel pressure, implausible

In the event of a very high-capacity fuel pump (low-pressure fuel pump) with a high pre-flow volume, the
required target low fuel pressure of 72 psi (5.0 bar) can no longer be maintained despite full control. This
results in the permissible low fuel pressure being exceeded and thus the customer complaint described
above.
The pressure deviation as such is not noticeable by the customer and has no effect on the vehicle’s ability
to be driven.
Information
Replacing the fuel pump (low-pressure fuel pump) is not expedient for this complaint and does not
constitute a remedy.

Action:

In the event of a customer complaint, re-program the DME control unit using the PIWIS Tester.

The minimum programming requirement is the PIWIS Tester software release: 42.700.050

Specific information on control unit programming as part of this Technical Information:
Required PIWIS Tester software release:

42.700.050 (or higher)

Type of control unit programming:

Control unit programming using the “Automatic
programming” function of the DME control unit.
“Motor electronics (DME)” control unit –
“Coding/programming” menu – “Automatic
programming” function.
Read and follow the information and instructions
on the PIWIS Tester during the guided
programming sequence.
During the programming sequence, first the DME
control unit and then the PDK control unit or
transmission control unit, are re-programmed.

Programming sequence:

Both control units are then automatically
re-coded.
Do not interrupt the programming and coding
process.
Once the control units have been programmed and
coded, you will be prompted to switch the ignition off
and then back on again after a certain waiting time.
Backup documentation of the new software releases
are then performed.
