This is to notify you of an Emission Service Campaign launch to update the battery module control unit on 42,079 Model Year ("MY") 2023

-2024 C-Class (206 platform), E-Class (214 platform), CLE (236 platform), GLC (254 platform) and S-Class (223 platform)
vehicles. The vehicles will be visible and flagged in VMI as "OPEN" on July 19,2024.

Background

Issue

Mercedes-Benz AG ("MBAG"), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has
determined that on certain Model Year (“MY”) 2023 -2024 GLC (254 platform), C-Class
(206 platform), CLE (236 platform), E-Class (214 platform) and S-Class (223 platform)
vehicles, the 48-volt battery module (BMS) control unit software does not correspond to
the current series production configuration. It is therefore possible that the battery's state
of health is calculated incorrectly, thereby falsely illuminating check engine light ‘MIL’
(malfunction indicator lamp).

What We’re Doing

MBUSA will conduct an Emission Service Campaign in which an authorized MercedesBenz dealer will update the battery module control unit on the affected vehicles.

Parts are not required for this campaign since the remedy is software based

Notice to California Dealers: As required by 13 CCR 2117, a proof of correction (“POC”) certificate showing that the
vehicle has been repaired under this recall must be issued by the authorized service facility, and that such a
certificate may be required by California as a condition of vehicle re-registration or operation. Please reference this
POC in the attached work instructions. Failure to complete this step may result in fines and penalties and lead to
customer dissatisfaction.
While we regret any inconvenience this may cause, MBUSA is determined to maintain a high level of vehicle quality and
customer satisfaction. Customers will receive an in-vehicle notification regarding this campaign. Please refer all customer

Update Battery Module Control Unit Software
 Always use the latest XENTRY Diagnosis software release with all available add-ons.
 Follow the operation steps exactly as described in XENTRY Diagnosis.
 Use a charger to ensure sufficient power supply to the vehicle’s on-board electrical system battery
(greater than 12.5 V).
 If XENTRY Diagnosis is already connected to the vehicle, start with Work Procedure Step 2.
If two or more software updates or SCN codings are performed during a single workshop
visit, operation items 02-4762 and 02-5058 may be invoiced only on one of the workshop orders.

Work Procedure

1. Connect XENTRY Diagnosis.
2. Update A66 - Battery module (48 V battery) (BM48) control unit software.
To do this, select menu item "Quick test view → A66 - Battery module (48 V Battery) (BM48) → Adaptations →
Control unit update → Update of control unit software".
Then follow the user guidance in XENTRY Diagnosis.

3. Disconnect XENTRY Diagnosis.
4. Check whether any fault messages are displayed in the instrument cluster after the software update.

If faults are displayed in the instrument cluster, continue with Work Procedure Step 5.
If no faults are displayed in the instrument cluster, end measure.

5. Disconnect ground line of 12 V on-board electrical system battery, wait 10 seconds, and reconnect.
Required to perform a reset.

“Campaign No.” for the California Proof of Correction Label is unique and must be entered as such (240214), your “Dealer
Code”, and the “Date” of the repair, using a black permanent marker.
Note: Clean bonding surface prior to affixing label.
