This bulletin has been revised to provide the engine replacement procedure, and
updated warranty and part sections. Please discard all previous copies of N242442140.

On May 16, 2024, an inspection procedure was made available and vehicles that passed the inspection
could be delivered and closed using the “Engine Idle and Road Test - Vehicle Passed Inspection (No
Further Action Required)” labor code 9107431. For vehicles which did not pass inspection and were
held, parts are now available to complete this repair and floor plan reimbursement has been added to
this bulletin.
All involved vehicles that are in New and Unsold dealer inventory must be held and not delivered to
customers, dealer traded, or used for demonstration purposes until the inspection contained in this
bulletin has been performed on the vehicle.
This service update involves vehicles in dealer inventory only and will expire August 31, 2025.

This service update should be performed on vehicles in dealer inventory only. Involved vehicles are marked “Open” on
the Investigate Vehicle History screen in GM Global Warranty Management system. This site should always be checked
to confirm vehicle involvement prior to beginning any required inspections and/or repairs.
Condition

Correction

On certain 2024 model year Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, Tahoe, and GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon,
and Yukon XL vehicles, equipped with a 5.3L gasoline engine (RPO L84), burrs may be present in the
engine oil circuit which could cause an engine misfire.
Dealers will perform the engine idle and road test inspection, and if necessary, replace the engine.

Item/Miscellaneous. This amount should represent the product of the vehicle’s average daily interest rate (see table
below) multiplied by the actual number of days the vehicle was in dealer inventory and not available for sale due to
not passing inspection. This reimbursement is limited to the number of days from the date the inspection procedure
was sent (May 16, 2024) to the date the repair is completed, and the vehicle is ready for sale (not to exceed 64 days):

Service Procedure
Important: Service agents must comply with all International, Federal, State, Provincial, and/or Local laws applicable to
the activities it performs under this bulletin, including but not limited to traffic laws. In the event of a conflict between the
procedures set forth in this bulletin and the laws that apply to your dealership, you must follow those applicable laws.
1.

Test the vehicle for misfires by performing the following test. Ensure the MDI2 is hooked up and that you are
monitoring engine misfire using GDS for the entire duration of the test.

2.

Idle the engine for 30 minutes.
Important: Please note these are new Engines - not fully broken in yet, and at no time during this Idle test
should the engine exceed 3,500 RPMs.

3.

Slowly ramp the engine up to 3,400 RPMs (3,300 to 3,500 RPMs target engine idle range) from idle and hold for 5
seconds, then drop it back down to idle for 1 minute.

Repeat step 3 four more times.

Road test the vehicle. This road test should consist of 25 miles (40 km) on city streets with varying speeds and
loads, as well as 25 miles (40 km) on a highway at a steady-state speed somewhere in the range of 55-70 mph (88112 km/hr) according to the local roads and speed limits available to you.

If the engine starts running rough and GDS shows more than an occasional misfire at any point during
the test or afterwards, proceed to step 6.

•

If the engine does not start running rough and GDS shows either no misfires or only a few, no further
action is required.

Replace the engine. Refer to Engine Replacement in SI.

Dealer Responsibility
Dealers must take the steps necessary to ensure that the service update correction has been made to all involved vehicles
in dealer inventory before selling or dealer-trading the vehicle, but no later than August 31, 2025.
All new, used, GM Certified Pre-Owned (CPO), courtesy transportation vehicles, dealer shuttle vehicles, CarBravo, etc.
in dealers' possession and subject to this field action must be held and inspected/repaired per the service procedure of
this bulletin before customers take possession of these vehicles. Involved vehicles must be held and not delivered to
customers, dealer-traded, released to auction, used for demonstration, or any other purpose.
All GM Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) vehicles currently in the dealers’ inventory within the SHIFT Digital system will be
de-certified and must be held and remedied per the service procedure in this bulletin. Upon submitting an accepted/paid
warranty transaction in the Global Warranty Management (GWM) system, the vehicle can be re-certified for sale within
the SHIFT Digital system, or once again be used in the Courtesy Transportation Program.
Dealer Reports – For USA & Export
The Inventory tab of the Open Vehicle Report will contain Service Update Bulletin VINs that apply to this field action.
This information is intended to assist dealers with the PROMPT COMPLETION of these vehicles. The Customer InService tab will not contain Service Update Bulletin VIN data because the intent of a Service Update Bulletin is to not
inconvenience a customer with a special trip for service. Service Update Bulletins are to be completed when the
customer is in for a regularly scheduled visit.
