The inverter is of the SiC type (Silicone Carbide) and is bolted on the rear side of the ERAD.

Inverter ERAD Module (IEM) | Polestar-TRIP

Electric Front Axle Drive (EFAD)

The Electric Front Axle Drive (EFAD) is an Asynchronous Motor (ASM) type motor, also called

induction motor. Unlike a PMSM motor where the rotor is permanently magnetized, the magnetic field

in the rotor of an induction motor is induced when electric current is applied to the stator.

Note that the EFAD cannot be disengaged, instead the electric motor is coasting when no torque is

needed on the front wheels.

The Electric Rear Axle Drive (ERAD) follow the PMSM type, which amongst other things, entails a premagnetized rotor with permanent magnets.

EVI Emergency Release Handle
(1) Emergency release handle

(2) Wire

(3) Actuator arm, EVI locking motor

The emergency release handle is accessed by removing the load floor and the recessed floor panel in

the vehicle’s cargo area. The handle is connected to the wire and is located on the left-hand side.

To release the charging cable from the EVI:

1. Stop the charging process.

2. Pull the emergency release handle until it stops.

3. Wait 5 seconds and the charging cable can be detached from the EVI.
