Introduction
The Polestar Performance Software upgrade will launch in North America on December 06, 2022. This
document will support Space Managers and Service Managers/Advisors with understanding details
about the product, the process, as well as answers to questions that might come up from customers,
prospective or current.

Applicability
The Polestar Performance Software upgrade is available for dual-motor cars that do not have
performance software from the factory (The performance software is included in the MY24 and MY23
Performance Pack). The aftermarket offer is available to cash, lease, and financed vehicle purchases.

Process & Remuneration
The Polestar Performance Software upgrade cost for a customer is $1195 in the USA and $1595 CAD in
Canada. In the USA and Canada, the selling Space (the Polestar Space that sold the vehicle according
to VISTA) will receive 5% of the Polestar Performance Software upgrade price (i.e., USD59.75 for US
spaces and CAD79.75 for CA spaces. The Space will receive the payment monthly via the sundry
process (to the parts account)).
The Polestar Performance Software upgrade is currently only available in the Polestar software
webshop and cannot be purchased when configuring the vehicle.
Once the Polestar Performance Software upgrade is purchased in the webshop, the software will be
deployed via OTA within 1-2 weeks. The Polestar Performance Software upgrade will be sent to the
customer’s car as an Over-the-Air (OTA) update and can be installed at the customer’s convenience
once downloaded. The Polestar Performance Software upgrade cannot be installed using VIDA.

At that time, the customer will also receive two replacement door stickers, a Polestar Engineered ‘rank
mark’ to apply to the front grille, and if applicable, an emissions sticker. In the USA, MY21 vehicles will
require an under-hood emission sticker. Instructions will come with the sticker.

The kit will come with a QR code which leads the customer to the installation instructions for the door
stickers and rank mark. That QR code will route to one of these locations depending on market:

Once the Polestar Performance Software upgrade is in the vehicle, other than the OTA confirmation, a
new screen will appear as an in-car app. See Figure 1.

Function description
The Polestar Performance Software upgrade increases the two motors combined certified output
over the complete RPM range, increasing power to 335kW (455hp) for MY24 and 350 kW (469hp) for
MY23 and previous. Torque goes up to 750 Nm (546 lb-ft) for MY24 and up to 680 Nm (502 lb-ft) for
MY23 and previous; a boost that also reduces the acceleration time from 0-60 mph to 4.2 seconds.
The Polestar Performance Software upgrade functions as a ‘power boost’, improving mid-range
acceleration and overall responsiveness. While improved responsiveness and pedal mapping apply
at all times, the boost is most noticeable at speeds between 70 and 130 km/h (45 and 80 MPH) and is
fully available between 70-100% State of Charge (SoC). Between 40-70% SoC, the power boost will
be slightly lower. This is to protect battery integrity. Similarly, below 40% SoC, the power boost is not
available, and the standard vehicle power and torque outputs apply, also to protect battery integrity.
Other factors may limit the power boost, such as a cold battery – which affects standard power output
in any case and is visualized in the power output graphic in the driver display.
Once installed, there is a new feature called “launch control”. The launch control feature can be
activated by depressing the accelerator and the brake pedal simultaneously. Upon doing so, you will
notice that your Polestar 2 “squats” because the software preloads a higher starting torque, slightly
pulling the car down. To start driving, all you need to do is release the brake pedal and launch control
will instantly provide maximum power.
The front:rear power distribution will remain the same with the installed upgrade.
The top speed of the Polestar 2 will remain the same with the installed performance software upgrade.

Warranty, Returns, & Customer Support
As this is a Polestar product, installing this upgrade has no impact on the vehicle’s original warranty. It
also won’t have an impact on the vehicle’s service interval frequency.
Since the Polestar Performance Software upgrade constitutes digital content that will be delivered
automatically following the purchase, the customer is allowed a 3-day cancellation from payment.
The Polestar Performance Software upgrade will be added to the vehicle and not the Polestar ID, and
therefore the Polestar Performance Software upgrade stays with the car when sold.
There is always a chance that the customer needs help with installation or needs a new door label.
For installation at the Service Point, this must be handled under customer pay. If a label is damaged or
needs to be replaced, the part number is in the VIDA parts catalog. Unless there is a suspected quality
issue with the label itself, the labor and the part should be covered under customer pay. For the rank
mark on the grille, as of the publishing of this document, the part number is not available. That said,
if a replacement is necessary, please reach out to Polestar Parts Support via Nebula. For all other
inquiries, please reach out to Polestar Customer Support and we will find a fast solution.
