Daytime Running Lights Disabled

All involved vehicles that are in dealer inventory must be held and not delivered to
customers, dealer traded, or used for demonstration purposes until the repair contained
in this bulletin has been performed on the vehicle.
CONDITION
General Motors
has decided that certain 2013 model year Cadillac
ATS model vehicles
produced for Israel do not have Daytime Running Light (DRL) functionality. Vehicles shipped to
Israel in this condition may be noncompliant to their requirements under ECE R48.04 Installation of Lighting and Light-Signaling Devices.
CORRECTION
Dealers are to confirm GM recall 13156 has been completed. If this does not return DRL function,
wiring circuits 4356 and 4357 will be altered to add DRL supply voltage.
VEHICLES INVOLVED
All involved vehicles are identified by Vehicle Identification Number on the Investigate Vehicle
History screen in GM Global Warranty Management system. Dealership service personnel
should always check this site to confirm vehicle involvement prior to beginning any required
inspections and/or repairs. It is important to routinely use this tool to verify eligibility because
not all similar vehicles may be involved regardless of description or option content.
For dealers with involved vehicles, a listing with involved vehicles containing the complete
vehicle identification number, customer name, and address information has been prepared and
will be provided to US and Canadian dealers through the GM GlobalConnect Recall Reports, or
sent directly to export dealers. Dealers will not have a report available if they have no involved
vehicles currently assigned.
The listing may contain customer names and addresses obtained from Motor Vehicle
Registration Records. The use of such motor vehicle registration data for any purpose other
than follow-up necessary to complete this recall is a violation of law in several

SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Determine if field action bulletin 13156 has been completed.
If field action bulletin 13156 has been completed, proceed to step 2.
If field action bulletin 13156 has NOT been completed, reprogram the body control
module as instructed in field action bulletin 13156 BEFORE proceeding to step 2.
2. Determine if the daytime running lights and the front parking lamps are enabled or disabled
(functional) or (not functional).
If the daytime running lights are enabled (functional), no further action is required.
If the daytime running lights are disabled (not functional), proceed to step 3.
Procedure Overview
Certain vehicles were built without circuits 4357 (brown wire) and 4356 (gray wire) for left and
right auxiliary daytime running lights supply voltage. Install these two circuits into the K9 body
control module X4 and X5 connector locations and to the X126 body harness to forward lamp
harness connector location. If brown and gray wire are NOT available, use white wire that
meets the GM specification listed in the parts section of this bulletin.
Note: It is essential to follow the service procedures provided below to gain access to the right
side body harness and right side body harness grommet.
3. Complete the following service procedures in SI BEFORE attempting to install the two
circuits.

3.1 Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection
and Connection in SI.

3.2 Remove the plenum front panel from the vehicle. Refer to Plenum Front Panel
Replacement in SI.
Caution: To avoid part damage, carefully lay the brake pressure modulator to the side. Ensure
the modulator pipes are not pulled or supporting the weight of the brake pressure modulator.
Removing the brake pressure modulator bracket bolts will provide access to the right side body
harness grommet.
3.3 Remove the brake pressure modulator bracket bolts. Do NOT disconnect the modulator
pipes or remove the brake pressure modulator.
Caution: To avoid part damage, carefully lay the surge tank to the side without stretching or
pulling on the surge tank hoses. Removing the surge tank mounting bolt will provide access to
properly route the two new wires a long side of the right side body harness.
3.4 Remove the radiator surge tank mounting bolts. Do NOT remove or drain the surge tank
or remove the surge tank hoses or cap.

3.5 Remove the front compartment fuse block housing. Refer to Front Compartment Fuse
Block Housing Replacement in SI.

3.6 Remove the body control module (BCM). Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in
SI. Remove the BCM from the bracket and disconnect the electrical connectors. Place
the BCM on the driver seat.

4. Locate the right body harness grommet (1). The grommet is located in the engine
compartment on the passenger side of the vehicle. The grommet is below the plenum.
5. Locate the two holes in the right side body harness grommet.
6. Insert and awl, metal rod or equivalent (3) into the inside grommet hole (2).
7. Push the awl, metal rod or equivalent (3) through the inside hole until an opening is
created. The opening in the grommet must allow access from the engine compartment into
the inside of the vehicle.

8. From inside the vehicle, use a tire plug installation tool, metal rod or equivalent (1) to route
two 0.5 mm wires (brown and gray) through the grommet hole into the engine
compartment.
9. Route the two 0.5 mm wires to the right side X 126 body harness to forward lamp harness
connector. Route the 0.5 wires along the side of the body harness.

Caution: Use only the EL-28125-5 Ultra Torch or another butane fueled soldering iron to
splice the terminal leads to avoid inducing voltage into the circuit, which may damage electrical
components.
Note: Remove 13 mm (1/2 in) of insulation from the ends of the 0.5 mm brown and gray wires
BEFORE performing step 10. Fold the 13 mm (1/2 in) ends of exposed copper wires over each
other and crimp the splice for the brown and gray wires.
10. Splice a terminal lead, P/N 19300635, to the ends of brown and gray wires at the X 126
body harness to forward lamp harness connector. Refer to Splicing Copper Wire Using
Splice Sleeves in SI for splicing instructions.
11. Disassemble the X 126 body harness to forward lamp harness connector.
12. Install the brown wire (circuit 4357) with the terminal lead into PIN 7 of the X 126 body
harness to forward lamp harness connector. Refer to Connector End Views: X 126 Body
Harness to Forward Lamp Harness in SI.
13. Install the gray wire (circuit 4356) with the terminal lead into PIN 9 of the X 126 body
harness to forward lamp harness connector. Refer to Connector End Views: X 126 Body
Harness to Forward Lamp Harness in SI.
14. Assemble the X 126 body harness to forward lamp harness connector.
15. Disassemble the K9 body control module X 4 and X 5 connectors.
16. Splice a terminal lead, P/N 13575870, to the ends of the brown and gray wires at the K9
body control module X 4 and X 5 electrical connectors. Refer to Splicing Copper Wire
Using Splice Sleeves in SI for splicing instructions.
17. Install the brown wire (circuit 4357) with the terminal lead into PIN 7 of the black K9 body
control module X 4. Refer to Connector End Views: K9 Body Control Module X 4 in SI.
18. Install the gray wire (circuit 4356) with the terminal lead into PIN 7 of the brown K9 body
control module X 5. Refer to Connector End Views: K9 Body Control Module X 5 in SI.

19. Wrap the two wires at the K9 body control module electrical connector end and X 126 body
harness to forward lamp harness connector end to right side body harness wires using
electrical tape.

20. Install ¼ in conduit (2) over the two wires from the engine side of the right side body
harness grommet to the X 126 body harness to forward lamp harness connector end.
21. Ensure the routing of the two new wires is a long side of right side body harness (1).
22. Secure the two new wires in conduit (2) to the existing right side body harness (1) with tie
straps.
23. Apply a small bead of RTV around right side body harness grommet hole that the two wires
go through. Apply the bead of RTV on vehicle interior side of the right side body harness
grommet hole.

24. Install the front compartment fuse block housing. Refer to Front Compartment Fuse Block
Housing Replacement in SI.

25. Install the body control module (BCM). Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in SI.
Do NOT install the Instrument Panel Lower Trim Panel Insulator until completing step X.
26. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and
Connection in SI.
27. Turn on the vehicle and verify daytime running light (DRL) and front park lamp operation.

If the DRLs and front park lamps are enabled and functioning properly, proceed to step
28.
If the DRLs and front park lamps are disabled, inspect the two circuits from the BCM
electrical connectors to the X 126 body harness to forward lamp harness connector to
determine why the DRLs and/or front park lamps are disabled. Verify battery condition
and all electrical connections repaired. Refer to the appropriate diagnostic information
in SI if required. Ensure the BCM has been programmed with the most recent
calibration in TIS2WEB.
28. Complete the installation of the components removed to gain access to the BCM. Refer to
Body Control Module Replacement in SI.
29. Install the radiator surge tank mounting bolts.
30. Install the brake pressure modulator bracket bolts.

31. Install the plenum front panel. Refer to Plenum Front Panel Replacement in SI.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
Letters will be sent to known owners of record located within areas covered by the US National
Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. For owners outside these areas, dealers should notify
customers using the attached sample letter.
DEALER RECALL RESPONSIBILITY
All unsold new vehicles in dealer's possession and subject to this recall must be held and
inspected/repaired per the service procedure of this recall bulletin before customers take
possession of these vehicles.
Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this recall at no charge to customers, regardless of
mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership, from this time forward.
Customers who have recently purchased vehicles sold from your vehicle inventory, and for which
there is no customer information indicated on the involved vehicle listing, are to be contacted by
the dealer. Arrangements are to be made to make the required correction according to the
instructions contained in this bulletin. A copy of the customer letter is provided in this bulletin for
your use in contacting customers. Recall follow-up cards should not be used for this purpose,
since the customer may not as yet have received the notification letter.
In summary, whenever a vehicle subject to this recall enters your vehicle inventory, or is in your
facility for service in the future, you must take the steps necessary to be sure the recall correction
has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.
