Multiple DTCs Set When Using Scan Tool Device

This PI was superseded to update recommended field. Please discard PIC5741A.
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern

Multiple DTCs set and Instrument Panel Self-Test/WOW occurs when the MDI is plugged into the vehicle's

Diagnostic Link Connector (DLC). This condition may be aggravated by slightly wiggling the connection at the DLC.

This can be caused by a poor electrical connection to the MDI caused by spread terminals in the DLC. Most

frequently, DLC ground terminals 4 & 5 are the culprit, however, but it could be the positive connections as well.
Recommendation/Instructions

Use diagnostic test probe J-35616-2A (GY) to test for spread terminals. If replacement terminals are required, they

are part number 50420-8000 and are located in tray 15 of the terminal repair kit.
Warranty Information

For vehicles repaired under warranty, please use the appropriate warranty labor operation based on the actual

cause and repair. The latest version of bulletin 10-00-89-005A: "Warranty Administration - Revised Wiring Repair

Labor Operations and Required Additional Information" can use as a reference.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is

resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
