REPAIR) PRODUCT SUPPORT MUST SECOND LEVEL THE QUERY TO THE ELECTRICAL SENIOR ENGINEER TO GAIN
PERMISSION BEFORE THE INSTRUCTIONS WITHIN THIS TPI ARE CONDUCTED
ONCE PERMISSION HAS BEEN GIVEN BY THE ELECTRICAL SENIOR ENGINEER PRODUCT SUPPORT CAN GIVE
PERMISSION TO CONDUCT THE ONWARD INSTRUCTIONS
The original (SDIS) screens are no longer available, a rework procedure is available to replace the original 20 Model Year New Flying spur
(SDIS) system with the (BYOC) system 21 Model year onwards

The Work section must be conducted to completion including the (BYOC) Over The Air (OTA) Update (if deemed as
required)

The BYOC system operates differently from the original SDIS system, further information can be found via the eAcademy as
below

The information published includes a Learning programme, including a Must Tell Must Know document, which will help the
operative understand the characteristics of the Rear Entertainment system in order to provide comprehensive information to
the customer such as first time set-up of the Rear Entertainment System, including Wi-Fi hotspot and Bluetooth connection

TIP: In the event that damage is evident on any of the afore mentioned components, the operative must make the customer
aware before proceeding
Tip: The following tools are recommended and should be sourced locally

Industrial vacuum cleaner as shown in Figure 1 is required for removing swarf during the rework process (source locally)

A short 6.5mm diameter drill is recommended when conducting the shoulder moulding replacement procedure (Figure 2) the short drill is
recommended to minimise movement/disruption of the squab foam and squab cover (source locally)

1) Remove the airbag fuse - Refer to Rep.Gr 69
2) Referring to Rep.Gr 72 - Remove both front seats - once removed - place the seat assemblies on the seat repair stand, refer to "Front seat
repair stand VAS 6136 - To prepare
Hint: if only one seat stand is available please ensure the other seat is stored in a clean and safe environment
3) Referring to Rep.Gr 68 - Front centre console - Remove the left and right hand front centre console trim panels only (Figure 3)

4) The left and right hand carpet must be carefully repositioned to gain access to the location shown in Figure 4

Hint: The difference between the left and right hand harness relates to the pre fitted clips however not all of the clipping
points will be utilised during this rework process, the colour of the wiring is the same regardless of part number/side

7) Referring to Figure 7 - On each side remove the plastic press in clips (Arrows) to release the top part of the cover from the squab frame

8) Referring to Figure 8 - Insert a suitable hook into the retaining clips -arrows- and unclip the cover -1- from the retaining clips on the seat
assembly -2- this will allow the cover to become separated from the seat squab assembly for removal

9) Referring to Figure 9 - Gently peel the seat cover -1- off the foam padding -2- releasing the two Velcro securing strips -arrows- and peel the
cover downwards

10) With extreme care - Reposition/lower the seat foam and seat squab cover to allow access to the shoulder moulding rivets

The operative must use a suitable vacuum cleaner to ensure all swarf is removed whilst removing the rivet heads

11) Referring to Figure 12 - Disconnect the electrical connection from the shoulder moulding at the location shown (ARROW)
Hint: The original SDIS harness and the SDIS control modules (J648 and J649) can remain fitted within the seat as these
components are no longer required
12) Drill the rivet heads from the (x2) rivets shown (CIRCLE)

13) Manoeuvre the shoulder moulding up and away from the seat frame - Discard the original shoulder moulding, ensuring all local
environmental guidelines are followed

With care remove the remaining rivet bodies from the seat frame holes (x2)

14) Referring to Figure 13 - Position the new shoulder moulding onto the seat frame

HINT: Ensure the location tabs are positioned as shown

15) Referring to Figure 14 - Push/locate the shoulder moulding downwards into position until the tabs are located behind the seat frame as
shown

16) Install (x2) rivets through the shoulder moulding and seat frame - Using a suitable rivet tool secure the shoulder moulding to the seat frame

CAUTION

The shoulder moulding is secure

The rivet heads do not have the rivet mandrels protruding (The example shown in Figure 15 is correct as the rivets mandrels are not
protruding)

the outer side of the seat frame

HINT: Due to the harness not being secured at the original location points some of the link loom securing clips (fitted to the link loom) will not be
required any unused clips can be removed and discarded
17) Referring to Figure 18 - Route the link loom as shown until the loom exits the seat frame at the location shown (CIRCLE)
Hint: The harness should be directed through the protective trunking on the underside of the seat

Referring to Figure 19 point A - Remove 150mm of tape from the original 4-way SDIS link loom 8K0.973.754 (ARROW)

Using suitable cutters - Cut the link loom at point B

IMPORTANT: Save the link loom and 4 way connector as this requires splicing into the previously fitted new harness
