Granturismo – Air pipe Connector Taping

Certain Maserati GranTurismo (M189) MY24 listed in MODISCS+ are involved in a Rapid Update
to carry out a taping procedure of the connector of the air pipes of the rear suspension.
This action is essential because it has come to our attention that the use of excessively harsh
detergents during car washing can have adverse effects on the connector. These effects may
include exposing the connector to contamination and damage, ultimately resulting in sealing
issues.
We remind you that all the Rapid Updates must be performed within the first workshop visit,
regardless of the Mandatory setting set in Modis, as required by Maserati policies.
Also, for vehicles in Stock Dealer / PDI, it is necessary to carry out all action operations before
delivery to the end customer, as required by the White Book and explicitly reported in the Predelivery checklist.

TECHNICAL SERVICE OPERATIONS

All images shown in this bulletin are for illustrative purposes only
1. Always check ModisCS+ to see if the vehicle is involved in this action and if it has not been
previously performed.
2. Safely lift the vehicle on a lift and remove the rear wheels following the procedure in the
workshop manual.
a. 06.00.004 - REAR WHEEL RIM LEFT - Detachment and reattachment
b. 06.00.003 - REAR WHEEL RIM RIGHT - Detachment and reattachment
3. Identify the connector to be taped (A), both on the left and right side of the vehicle.
Note: For better operation you can disconnect the sectioning clip, being careful not to ruin the
clip.

Ensure the pipe surface is clean, dry, and free from grease, dust, or any contaminants. Clean
the surface with a cloth or rag if necessary with a neutral pH detergent (not containing sulfuric
acid and/or sodium hydroxide). DO NOT use brake cleaner!

5. Measure about 15-20 cm the length of tape needed to wrap around the pipe. Cut the tape to
the required length using a utility knife or scissors. It's a good practice to cut the tape slightly
longer than needed, as you can trim any excess later.
6. Peel off the protective backing from the tape to expose the adhesive side. Begin wrapping the
tape tightly around the connection wrapping outward towards the pipe (Figure 1). Overlap each
turn slightly to ensure a secure and uniform coverage. Keep the tension consistent as you wrap.
Please note some brands use double protective backing on both sides of the tape. Make sure that
both sides are removed before applying.

NOTE: As you wrap, gently stretch the tape. This helps activate the self-amalgamating
properties of the tape, ensuring a tight seal.
8. Finish the wrap by pressing down the tape to adhere it securely. Trim any excess tape with a
utility knife or scissors.
9. Rub the tape firmly to activate the self-amalgamating properties. This will help the tape fuse
together and create a strong seal.
NOTE: For a better understanding of the procedure, a video demonstration is included as a
separate attachment with the Bulletin.

10. When finished clip the connector back into the retaining bracket. (Figure 3 and Figure 4).

11. Continue and perform the same rework procedure on the other side of the vehicle. Both
sides are to be completed.
12. Re-install all removed parts following the procedure in reverse order.
13. Procedure complete.

7. **Continue Wrapping: ** Keep wrapping entirely encompassing both the connector and the
hose at both ends of the connection. Ensure you have sufficient tape to create an effective
seal to avoid any infiltration of water and various contaminants. (Figure 1 and Figure 2)

To carry out the rework it is necessary to use a self-agglomerating tape. Which can be
purchased through 3rd party retail suppliers, making sure that the tape conforms to the following
criteria.

Waterproof and water-resistant
UV rays resistant
Operating temperatures between -40 °C and +90 °C

The expected consumption of the tape is about 15-20 cm which will be reimbursed in the total
processing time.

Duck® Brand Wrap-Fix® Self-Fusing Repair Tape
TSSA-1.5-.76-15-1 Gamma Electronics (magic tape)
ER Tape: Black 1" x 12' Self-Fusing Tape
Maxwel KE30S self-fusing tape

All tapes are available through 3rd party retail suppliers. The parts dept will not be supplying
these tapes.

Carwash Detergent Information
Please exercise special care when cleaning or maintaining Maserati vehicles, especially when it
comes to the use of cleaning agents and solvents that have the potential to harm not only the
bodywork but also other components, as is the case here.
Therefore, when washing the vehicle including the wheel arches and alloy wheels, it is
recommended to use gentle, non-acidic, and pH-neutral detergents. In general, avoid using
detergents that contain sulfuric acid and/or sodium hydroxide.
When delivering the vehicle to the customer, it's essential to provide instructions on how to wash
it properly and specify the recommended cleaning products. These guidelines are also
available in the car's User Manual (LUM) for easy reference.
