Grecale MHEV– 48V system – Four points Nut
tightening torque check

Certain Maserati Grecale MHEV (M182) MY23 MY24 listed in MODISCS+ are involved in a Rapid
Update related to the potential of five cable nuts losing torque.
This campaign can be considered as an extension of Rapid Update #597 and #622, already
communicated. It was found that a wrong tightening torque had been applied in production
with potential electrical issues on the vehicle and Hybrid system malfunction or in some cases
the complete discharge of the 12V battery. The remedy will require the inspection of four nuts
located in the trunk and engine compartments, restoring the correct tightening torque.
We remind you that all Rapid Updates must be performed the first time the vehicle enters the
workshop, regardless of the Mandatory setting set in Modis, as required by Maserati policies.
Likewise, for cars in Stock Dealer/PDI, it is necessary to carry out all campaign operations before
delivery to the final Customer, as prescribed by the White Book and explicitly reported in the Predelivery checklist.

To complete this rework, it is necessary to check the 5 points below:

Follow the procedure to rework the points indicated in the picture using the VIN list.
A. Positive and Negative BSG Cable on the engine block. -> Increased nut Torque to 18 Nm
B. Positive 48V Cable to BDU in the trunk compartment -> Increased nut Torque to 28,5 Nm
C. Positive 48V High Node in the Engine Compartment. -> Check Only (11 Nm)
D. 48V battery to chassis Ground point in the trunk compartment. -> Check Only (8Nm)

Operational Procedure – Preliminary Operation
Preparations:
•

Always check in ModisCS+ to see if the vehicle is involved in this action and if it has not been
previously performed.

Use the Attached VIN list to verify the correct actions to be performed for each VIN

Perform actions marked only with a “Y” per VIN.

Disconnect the 12V battery following the procedure reported in the workshop manual:

BATTERY - Electric supply connection-disconnection

Make sure the 48V system has powered down by using a DVOM to check for voltage at the 48V
FDU identified by the blue cover next to the washer fluid. If voltage is less than 5V then rework can
be performed.

It is highly recommended to proceed with the verification of the torque / tightening without
unscrewing the nuts, to avoid damage to the threads.
1.

Check if the vehicle is marked as “Y” for this specific rework in the VIN List attached.

2.

Lift the car and steer the wheels to the left (see photo) to free up the space needed to perform the
operation.

3.

Unscrew the indicated screw (A) and lower the pipes (1) to have accessibility to the screws.

4.

Unscrew the screw (2) and remove the cover (3) to free the two bolts to rework.

Use a torque wrench with an extension and socket to tighten the nut to 18 Nm. Set the torque
wrench to 18 Nm.

A. Positive and Negative BSG Cable tightening

Repeat the operation also for the next nut (Positive and Negative node), keeping the torque of 18
Nm.

Reassemble all removed parts following the removal procedure in reverse order.

B. Positive 48V Cable to BDU in the trunk compartment
It is highly recommended to proceed with the verification of the torque / tightening without
unscrewing the nuts, to avoid damage to the threads.
1.

Check if the vehicle is marked as “Y” for this specific point in the VIN List attached.

2.

Remove the luggage compartment container following the relative procedure:

09.61.066 - LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT CONTAINER - Removal/refitting or replacement

Using a torque wrench, tighten the nut with a torque of 28.5 Nm. (Set the torque wrench to 28,5
Nm)

4.

Reassemble all removed parts following the removal procedure in reverse order.

Procedure complete.

to 11 Nm)

Reassemble all removed parts following the removal procedure in reverse order.

It is highly recommended to proceed with the verification of the torque / tightening without
unscrewing the nuts, to avoid damage to the threads.
1.

Check if the vehicle is marked as “Y” for this specific point in the VIN List attached.

2.

Remove the right-side mat luggage compartment following the relative procedure:

09.61.005-RH SIDE MAT LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT -Removal/refitting or replacement

3.

Using a torque wrench, tighten the indicated nut with a torque of 8 Nm. (Set torque wrench to 8
Nm)

4.

Reassemble all removed parts following the removal procedure in reverse order.

Procedure complete.
