the area of the rear lid hinge may be restricted.

The cable routing will be modified on the affected vehicles and an additional cable holder will be added.
This Update is in effect until removed.
Vehicle must meet all of the following criteria:
• Procedure is valid only for vehicles that show the 97HJ code in the Elsa Campaign/Action Information screen
on the day of repair.
• Vehicle must be within the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
• Procedure must be performed within the allotted time frame stated in this Technical Service Bulletin.
• Procedure must be performed on applicable vehicles in dealer inventory prior to sale.

Elsa is the only valid inquiry/verification source. Check Elsa on the day this vehicle UPDATE will be
performed to verify vehicle eligibility for the UPDATE. Status must show “open”. Attach an Elsa printout
showing the “open” status to the repair order.
•
If this UPDATE appears to have already been performed but the code still shows open in Elsa, contact
Warranty before proceeding further. Another dealer may have recently performed this UPDATE but not
yet entered a claim for it in the system.
•
Elsa may also show additional open action(s); if so, inform your customer - this work can be done while
the vehicle is in for this UPDATE.
•
Contact the Warranty Helpline (U.S.) or the Warranty Campaign Specialist (Canada) if you have any
questions.
•
Enter the VIN in Elsa and proceed to the
“Campaign/Action” screen.
TIP
On the date of repair, print this screen and keep a
copy with the repair order.
•
Confirm the Campaign/Action is open . If the status is closed, no further work is
required.
•
Note the Applicable Criteria ID for
use in determining the correct work to be done
and corresponding parts associated.

NOTE
The procedure must be carried out on both rear lid hinges.
Luggage compartment side trim panel removal:
WARNING
Risk of airbag deployment. Risk of injury!
•
Check if the airbag indicator lamp turns on
or blinks.
•
If the airbag indicator lamp is on or flashes,
read out the DTC memory.
•
If “short circuit to positive” is a DTC memory
entry, disconnect the battery: “Electrical
Equipment; RG27; Battery; Battery,
Disconnecting and Connecting”.
•
If there is a DTC memory entry, the Guided
Fault Finding instructions must always be
followed.
•
If the airbag indicator lamp is not on or does
not flash, switch off the ignition. Place the
vehicle key and other start authorization
systems (such as smartphones) outside of
the vehicle and wait for 10 seconds.
CAUTION
Risk of injury! Pyrotechnic components can
deploy unintentionally!
•

Discharge static electricity: quickly touch
the door striker.

can detach from the trim panel if force is used
when loosening the trim panel.

mount in the areas indicated using a
suitable tool.
Modify rear lid hinge wiring harness:

Release retaining clips and remove them
from the harness.
•
Cut and remove the cable tie .
NOTE
The retaining clips can be discarded as they
will not be reused.
•
Using a pair of needle nose pliers, release the
cable holder retaining tabs .
•
Disengage the cable holder from the
body.

positioned at the previously made mark
on the harness.

Position the protective sleeve in the cable
holder as shown.
•
Install new cable ties .
•
Wrap the outlet of the cable holder with
