AFFECTED VEHICLES
Vehicles which require this campaign to be completed will show it as “Open” when checked either in AIR,
AWP, Campaign Summary, or Warranty Vehicle Inquiry.
Please make sure you check your center’s inventory as soon as possible. You can see a list of affected
vehicles in Inventory Campaign Details (ICD) under ROSS.

SITUATION
The left front suspension’s aluminum strut
dome (general area circled) was incorrectly
riveted to the body’s wheel-well. Overtime,
corrosion can form around the rivet holes.
Structural integrity would thereby NOT be
reduced, because the primary strength of that
dome attachment is from structural adhesive.

CORRECTION
Cover each affected rivet head on the left front strut dome with a strong seam sealant.
The right front strut dome is not affected
Important Note: This repair may have already been performed at BMW’s manufacturing plant. For this situation:
Inspect, no repair is necessary

PROCEDURE
1. Position the vehicle on a lift and raise it

to “chest-level”.

(Optional) Remove the left front wheel.

If the wheel remains on the vehicle, turn it to the right.
Note: Neither the front nor rear sections of the wheel-well liner need to be removed. The rivets are
directly accessible.

3. Using a small, long handled brush, apply a
small dab of sealant to the rivet head,
spreading it so that it extends to and contacts
the strut dome.

The total amount of sealant per vehicle is
a ball approx. the size of a large grape.
Note: The brush can be sourced
locally. Shorten the bristles if needed to
increase stiffness for ease of spreading
the sealant.
4. Apply the sealant to each of the seven rivets
shown in step 3.

5. Reassemble the vehicle if needed.
