AFFECTED VEHICLES
Vehicles which require this campaign to be completed will show it as “Open” when checked either
in AIR, AWP, Campaign Summary, or Warranty Vehicle Inquiry.
Please make sure you check your dealer inventory as soon as possible. You can see a list of
affected vehicles in Inventory Campaign Details (ICD) under ROSS.
For centers that qualify, this recall repair is eligible to be performed via Mobile Assistance.

SITUATION
Due to the semiconductor supply, the Local Interconnect Network module in either of the exterior mirrors
was switched to another controller. That one provides an imprecise voltage measurement, which the main
controller interprets as a fault.
For the driving cycle, the customer may lose the display in either mirror and the Lane Change Warning
function and, if installed, other functions such asSide collision warning
Lane Change Assistant
Steering and Lane Control Assistant
Emergency Lane Assistant
Hands Off 60 Assistant

CAUSE
Local Interconnect Network (LIN) module in the exterior mirrors provide an imprecise voltage measurement.

CORRECTION
Check the Local Interconnect Network modules and, if necessary, replace the exterior mirror(s).

PARTS INFORMATION
When a part replacement is required, the parts can be searched for in Electronic Parts Catalog (ETK) separately
based on the specific vehicle identification number (VIN).
Obtain and confirm the part numbers for your specific vehicle by entering the chassis number in either ETK or AIR
which considers the specific equipment and/or options.
Important: All new parts received from the RDC including an index of 03 have been checked and are not defective.
Important: Make sure to carefully check the above sources for all “in conjunction” (i.e., directly related to the repair)
and one-time use parts. Replace as per the repair instructions.
It is not advisable to stock up on parts beforehand since a mirror LIN module replacement cannot be determined
without first checking the component’s sticker on an affected vehicle.
Part Retention
The parts replaced to perform and submit for this repair procedure are the property of BMW NA.
Your center is responsible for the proper identification, storage, and documentation of these parts. They must be held in a
secure retention area until notification of claim payment is made by BMW NA through DCSnet.
If these replaced parts are requested to be returned, a corresponding DCSnet Part Return tag will generate.
Any requested parts that are not received by the WPRC in accordance with Section 6 of the Warranty Policy and Procedure
Manual may be subject to debit.

SITUATION

mirrors was switched to another controller. That one provides an imprecise voltage measurement,
which the main controller interprets as a fault.
For the driving cycle, the customer may lose the display in either mirror and the Lane Change Warning
function and, if installed, other functions such as• Side collision warning
• Lane Change Assistant
• Steering and Lane Control Assistant
• Emergency Lane Assistant
• Hands Off 60 Assistant

CAUSE
Local Interconnect Network (LIN) module in the exterior mirrors provide an imprecise voltage
measurement.

CORRECTION
Check the Local Interconnect Network modules and, if necessary, replace the exterior mirror(s).

PROCEDURE

Disassemble the two exterior mirror caps as
described in the repair instructions 51 16 041
“Removing and installing/replacing the cover
cap on the left or right exterior mirror”.
After the cover caps of the exterior mirrors have
been removed, the stickers (circled) on the Local
Interconnect Network modules are visible.

If 03 appears on the bottom line of the
sticker, replace the exterior mirror.
To replace the exterior mirror(s), follow the
repair instructions 51 16 002 Replacing the
exterior mirror on the front left or right door.
When checking the stickers on the Local
Interconnect Network modules, if it is determined
that one or both exterior mirrors need to be
replaced, the cover caps must be re-mounted.
The parts must then be ordered, and a new
appointment scheduled with the customer to
exchange the exterior mirror(s).
The sticker of a Local Interconnect Network
module that is OK can be seen in the picture.
Only exterior mirrors with the 03
identification on the sticker of the Local
Interconnect Network module must be
replaced.

PARTS INFORMATION
