Subject: Changes to 3,500–3,700 lbs. Axles with Disc Brakes and Vortex™ Integral Hub & Rotors
Dexter
is making a significant change to the 3,500–3,700 lbs. integral disc brakes installed on axles produced at Dexter’s Atlanta facility
utilizing Vortex™ integral hub & rotors. Leaf spring axles and Eliminator™ torsion axles produced mid-January 2023 and after will be
manufactured using the same disc brakes Dexter has been using on axles manufactured across Dexter’s other facilities including San
Marcos, California and Winchester, Tennessee.
Hubface, spring centers, and Eliminator torsion bracket distance dimensions will not be affected by this change maintaining the overhang
requirements thus allowing the new service replacement parts to be used on axles manufactured prior to mid-January 2023.
Hubs & rotors used mid-January 2023 and later will have a zinc based coated hub & rotor that surpasses 500 hours of salt spray testing
per the ASTM B117 standard and the caliper housings are aluminum. This matches or exceeds the materials used on axles mid-January
2023 or before.
The disc brake components (caliper, caliper mounting bracket, and integral hub & rotor) are not interchangeable and will need to be
replaced as complete units.
IDENTIFICATION:
Axle part numbers will change. To assist with identifying and converting to the axle new part number, the majority of the old axle part
number will be retained. The axle part number is printed on a label attached to every axle.
Example:
» Axle part number mid-January or prior G-46390XJ
» Axle part number mid-January or later with new-style components G-46390XUJ - a "U" is added to the part number to signify
the disc brake type the axle is built with.
If the axle tag is missing or illegible, please refer to the pictures in the charts in this product bulletin to visually identify the appropriate
disc brake components.
