Applicable Vehicles
Approximately 30 New Cascadia vehicles built between June 2021 and November 2021 with Detroit
Assurance 5.0 and Side Guard Assist. These vehicles were pre-series builds of new Side Guard
Assist functionality that went into production in 2022.
The vehicles were built with one of the following Central Gateway (CGW) software versions:
A000 446 86 27 ZGS 001
A000 446 89 27 ZGS 012
A000 446 91 27 ZGS 001
This solution does not apply to any other vehicles.
Symptoms
When using DiagnosticLink, fault code SPN 524287 FMI 31 appears as a J1939 fault code from
source address 42, Headway Controller. Affected vehicles will not display a corresponding UDS
fault code in DiagnosticLink. This has been confirmed by reviewing screen shots of DiagnosticLink
when connected to one of the affected trucks.
This fault code might be visible with third-party telematics systems connected to the J1939
network. There is no confirmed report that this is occurring.
NOTE: Fault code SPN 524287 FMI 31 is a valid fault code for Wabco ACC systems.
Issue
The J1939 fault code is caused by a bug in the CGW software versions listed above.
The CGW routes fault codes from Chassis-CAN to J1939 for third-party telematics systems as part
of its normal operation. In the software version used on these pre-series trucks, the fault routing
table had an error that causes the nuisance code to be sent on J1939.
Solution
It is possible to correct this issue by updating the CGW software to version A000 446 91 27 ZGS 002
(or newer) with DiagnosticLink. Use the "Program Device" tab; if more than one update is
presented, choose the "Newest" version over the "Latest" version.
Updating is recommended for units with a third-party telematics system connected to J1939.
Also, be certain to execute the Auto-Config process for the instrument cluster after updating the
CGW module, as GVC parameter settings may be updated in the CGW.
