WARNING
Unit may start automatically at any time even if the switch is in the OFF position. Use proper
lockout/tagout procedures before inspection/servicing. All unit inspection/servicing by
properly trained personnel only.

This instruction is limited to X2 2100/2500 and X4
7300/7500 units only, with compressor serial numbers
2813UO**** through 3613UO09123. The affected
compressors were installed in units with serial numbers
PAM91348463 through PAR91359988. Not all units in
this serial number range are affected. You must verify
compressor serial number prior to repair. This rework also
includes remanufactured compressors serial number range
of 2813UA**** to 3613UA9***.
Pump compressor down to 0 psig and front seat discharge
and suction service valves.
CAUTION: Do not bend or twist the vibrasorbers when
moving or removing the compressor.
Ensure proper lockout/tagout precautions are in place.
Remove the center cylinder head and inspect the valve
plate, then proceed to the front and rear heads as needed.
Rotate or remove the compressor to obtain easy access to
the rear cylinder head, if needed. If there are any broken
valves OR if a broken valve has caused cylinder bore
damage, REPLACE THE COMPRESSOR.
NOTE: Due to paint thickness, a 15mm socket may be
helpful instead of the standard 9/16”socket.
If the replacement compressor is within S/N range of
2813UA**** to 3613UA9**, remove cylinder heads from
the replacement compressor and complete step 4 prior to
installation into the unit. Compressors outside of this
range are not affected and the rework is not required.
If all valves are intact; remove one of the backer plate
bolts completely and loosen the other bolt. Rotate the
backer plate slightly and then use the removed bolt as a
jacking bolt to push the valve plate free from the

compressor deck. NOTE: Do NOT Strike The Valve
Plate To “Break” It Free From The Compressor.

Install valve plate assemblies using the new valve plate
gaskets and cylinder head gaskets provided.
Torque compressor head bolts to 42-48 ft/lbs.
Where paint has chipped from the head bolts, touch up
with Smoke Gray Krylon #1608 paint.
Reinstall the compressor back into the unit. Be sure to
apply LoctiteTM thread locking compound to the 3/8” -16 x
1” bolts securing the compressor to the engine, and torque
the bolts to 28 ft-lbs (38 Nm). Reinstall the compressor
shock-mount bolts and torque the bolts to 90ft-lbs (122
Nm).
Install new discharge and suction service valve gaskets.
Torque the 5/16”-18 x 2” discharge service valve bolts to
23 ft-lbs (31.2 Nm) and torque the ½”-13 x 2.75” suction
service valve bolts to 80 ft-lbs (108.5 Nm).
Evacuate the compressor.
Remove lock out/tag out devices. Check unit operation;
verify compressor oil level in sight-glass.
Once the valve replacement is completed, identify
completion by marking “VP” on the compressor body
with a permanent marker. It may be necessary to clean the
compressor surface with degreaser before marking. See
Fig.1 & Fig.2

16. NOTE: All valve plate parts MUST be returned to
Carrier Transicold Athens, GA. for warranty
payment. Pack all removed components back into the
original shipping box the kit came in and return to the
address specified on page 3.
17. Remove page 3 from this instruction, fold the page in half
and use it as a mailing label for parts return.
THE COMPRESSOR SERIAL NUMBER MUST BE

For compressor replacement; file a standard warranty request using standard SRT for the model being repaired
For valve plate replacement; use the following labor allowances and reference R929 on claim. These allowances apply to the specific
repair required per model:
• NDL933 / NDL934 X2 2100/2500 2.0 hours – move compressor, R&R all valve plates.
.5 hour – R&R bottom panel (if equipped)

NDW136 / NDW236 X4 7300/7500 –
2.5 hours – move compressor, R&R all valve plates
.5 hour – R&R bottom panel (if equipped)
* Fill in entire form including marking any broken discharge valves found.
