SITUATION
The BMW key card cannot be activated.
The activation menu in the BMW iDrive is missing.

CAUSE
Software in the head unit

PROCEDURE
For the situation above, connected drive provisioning must be carried out.
Attention:
- The vehicle must not be in transport mode.
- The vehicle must have a stable online connection.
- Only one active Key Card is possible per vehicle.
- Verify the Key Card belongs to the vehicle.
- Read out the Vehicle identification number (VIN) from the key card with the
Key Reader Plus or Key Reader Desktop.
If all the steps above have been checked, proceed with Connected Drive provisioning as follows:
1. Select the “Apps” menu item in the
main menu.
2. Using the iDrive Controller, position

the highlight selection frame over
“Installed apps”,
but do not press the iDrive Controller.
3. Press the “Options” button on the
iDrive Controller to open
the submenu for the update.

4. Select “Update apps and services”
and start the
update by pressing the iDrive
Controller.
5. Wait until the services are updated

Verify the BMW key card activation
menu is available.
If the menu item is still not available,
the head unit (HU-H3) must be reset
(press and hold the audio button for
about 30 seconds).

Important: vehicle programming or a part exchange is not necessary.

If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, claim the Plus work time FRU labor allowance instead
of the Main work time FRU allowance.
Based on which one applies to your center, please refer to SI B01 01 20 or B01 07 20 for claiming your
diagnosis work time, job/repair work time (WT), RO/Claim WT and/or repair explanation procedures, unless
otherwise required by State law.
