SITUATION
Different air temperatures are felt from left to right out of the front fresh air grilles (air vent).
The following fault code is saved in the IHKA (integrated automatic heating/air conditioning system) control
unit:
801189 - Engine mixed air right: Initialization fault

CAUSE
Due to the constant pressure on the end stop of the mixed air flap, it may become deformed and in some
cases break off.
As a result, one of the air flap units may no longer move correctly

CORRECTION
Test operation of the mixed air flap. Repair as needed.

PROCEDURE
In the event of a customer complaint, proceed
as follows.
Follow repair instructions Replacing controller
drive of air mixing flap, front right (M83a) to
access the stepper motor.
Note: On G01 this stepper motor is numbered
M83a. The motor is numbered differently on
different models.

Remove the servomotor of the mixed air flap
adjuster and attempt to turn the mixed air flap
adjuster by hand.

If the mixed air flap adjuster can
be turned by hand, only the
servomotor needs to be replaced. Run
the stepper motor initialization test
plan and allow vehicle to enter sleep
mode. Then reassess the vehicle.
If it is not possible to turn the
mixed air flap adjuster by hand, or only
with great difficulty, the empty housing
of the heating and air-conditioning unit
must be replaced. Observe repair
instructions 64 11 197.

Select and use the Defect Code below that applies to the work performed:

64 11 72 12 00: Actuator, stratification/ventilation flap, heater/heat exchanger Permanent failure
64 11 69 29 00: Stratification/ventilation flap, heater/heat exchanger Sticking/jammed
Refer to AIR for the flat rate labor operations (including diagnosis) and for the flat rate unit (FRU) allowances
that also apply.
Only one Main labor operation code can be claimed per repair visit.
The labor operation for Replacing the Heating and Air Conditioning Unit (64 11 206/703/205/702) includes
replacing the drained engine coolant and the procedure to extract, evacuate and fill the air conditioning
system.
Based on which one applies to your center, please refer to SI B01 01 20 or B01 07 20 for claiming your
diagnosis work time, job/repair work time (WT), RO/Claim WT and/or repair explanation procedures, unless
otherwise required by State law.
