AFFECTED VEHICLES
Vehicles which require this Campaign to be completed will show it as “Open” when checked either in AIR,
the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System), ISPA Next or Warranty Vehicle Inquiry.
SITUATION
Vehicles were delivered with the wrong radio
remote control (without motion sensor) which
decreases the theft-proofing against range
extenders.
Situation does NOT affect the BMW
Display Key.
Do not deliver vehicles subject to this Delivery Stop, until the vehicle is repaired. Do not use or sell
replacement equipment/parts subject to a Delivery Stop.
If vehicles have already been delivered, the customer must be requested to make a brief workshop
visit.
CORRECTION
Replace the factory-provided remote control keys.
Important: G12 vehicles with option code 3DS and/or 5DV are equipped with one Display Key, and one
radio remote control. In this case only ONE remote control needs to be replaced.
All other vehicles without any of the option codes mentioned above will need 2 remote control keys
replaced.

PROCEDURE
1. Connect the vehicle to ISTA and perform a vehicle test.
2. Enable the new keys using Service Function via the following path:
Body- Locking and security functions- Remote control key, key- Block and enable remote control key
Or
Manual teach-in
The following activities must be performed in this connection:
a. Remove all existing keys from the vehicle interior. On G12 with option 3DS, remove the Display Key from
the interior as well even though the Display Key is not affected by this repair.
b. Press the START-STOP button. The Check Control message "No remote-control key found" appears and
then the request to hold the key at the ring antenna.
c. Hold the new remote control against the ring antenna immediately as shown in the Owner's Manual.
Press the START-STOP button again.
For vehicles without PWF status: If necessary. press the START-STOP button several times until the
ignition can be switched on.
For vehicles with PWF status: If necessary, press the START-STOP button repeatedly until PAD mode
can be switched on.
d. Perform a functional check: Lock/unlock central locking system and then carry out an engine start.
3. Transfer the factory-equipped key blades (“skeleton key”) to the new remote control key fobs.
4. Remove the factory-equipped key fobs from the vehicle interior.
5. With the new enabled key fobs inside the vehicle, access Service Function to block the factory equipped
remote controls.
6. Verify key functionality.
Important:
The factory-equipped remote control key batteries need to be removed and recycled per your
center’s local town regulations.
The new replacement remote control key fobs already contain new batteries
The factory-equipped remote control key fobs must be destroyed. This must be documented in
the vehicle records.
PARTS INFORMATION
Important: All vehicles stopped at the VDC will be repaired prior to release to the BMW center.
Please do not order any parts for vehicles at the VDC or on the way to the VDC.
Only use and invoice the part number below.
Performing a part number look-up in ETK (EPC) by VIN or model in place of using/invoicing the
following part number may result with the wrong part number being invoiced and installed, this
could delay the payment of the claim.
