SITUATION :
Quality Engineering at McLaren Automotive have released a new AIS
Infotainment IRIS Software Update for the McLaren 12C.
The most noticeable customer benefits of this software are:
PROCEDURE :
Improve functionality and eliminate intermittent system
freeze of the Reverse Camera.
Improve stability and eliminate intermittent system freeze of
the AIS Infotainment IRIS system.
It is necessary to update the software on all affected vehicles within
your Aftersales car parc, both when carrying out Pre-Delivery
Inspections (PDI) and at the next service centre visit.

IRIS appliCation software update:
Care Point: The Application Software will be supplied via USB to dealers.
Care Point: Do not turn off the engine or change the ignition state during the update process unless
explicitly stated within this update procedure.
1. Switch the ignition ON to ignition state 5 and start the engine.
2. Insert the USB drive with the application software into the USB socket (1).

3. Once the USB has been inserted, the system should provide a message stating a USB device has been
detected.
4. Press the Settings hard button on the IRIS console.

5. Select About (2) and then Update Product (3).

6. On the following screen select Update by USB Stick (4). A pop up message will be displayed. Press OK
(5) to start the loading operation.

7. The following screen will be displayed (6) and the system will reboot.

8. After the system has rebooted it will search for and check the update file (7). Once the installation has
finished the following screen will be displayed (8) and the system will reboot.

9. The system may restart several times, displaying the ‘McLaren’ logo. Depending on the radio tuner
variant installed on the vehicle, the reboot might be followed by a radio tuner software update and a
subsequent reboot. This is normal, please do not attempt a manual reset.

Care Point: It might take 1-2 minutes for the GPS popup to appear.
10. Once the update is completed and the system has rebooted, the system will return to the Home screen.
11. Wait for the GPS update prompt to appear.
Care Point: Confirm that the engine is running before you proceed to the next step.
12. Press OK (9) to start the GPS firmware update.
13. The following screen will be displayed (10) and the GPS firmware update will commence.

14. Once the GPS firmware update has been completed the system will reboot.
15. Following the reboot, press the Settings hard button on the IRIS console.

16. Select About (11) and then select Versions (12).

17. Confirm that the McLaren Software Part Number matches the Part Number listed in Table at Page 1 of
this document or refer to Appendix 2.
18. Press the Home button on the IRIS console to return to the Home screen and remove the USB drive.
Care Point: For vehicles where the Learn Vehicle Model process has been completed previously the option
will not be available in the Settings menu. In this case proceed to Step 21.
19. Press the Settings hard button on the IRIS console.
20. Scroll upwards and select Learn Vehicle Model (13). The system will perform a configuration update and
reboot.

21. Connect the McLaren Diagnostic System (MDS) to the vehicle.
22. Select HU_02 (14), then select Sequences (15), select Align Vehicle Configuration (16), followed by the
arrow key (17).

Care Point: If Service Information Bulletin 11 T 007 Radio Tuner Supersession has been previously followed
to a vehicle to prevent the DAB icon appearing on the IRIS display, after carrying out the Align Vehicle
Configuration the DAB icon will re-appear because the Head Unit (HU) has been re-aligned to the SCUG
configuration. If that is the case please carry out Service Information Bulletin 11 T 007 Radio Tuner
Supersession Steps 1 – 7 and then proceed to the next Step of the document.
Care Point: Performing Factory Data Reset will delete the stored radio stations and paired Bluetooth
devices.
Care Point: Depending on the radio tuner installed the system might reflash the radio tuner software several
times following a system reboot.
23. Press the Settings hard button on the IRIS console.

24. Select Advanced Settings (18) and then Privacy (19) in order to access the Factory Data Reset.

25. Select Factory Data Reset (20) followed by Reset (21) and then Erase Everything (22).

26. The system will reboot. The Factory Data Reset will be completed once the system has returned to the
Standby Screen.
27. Wait until the system has fully rebooted, then turn the engine and ignition off and place the vehicle into a
sleep mode. Ensure the vehicle stays in sleep mode for a minimum of 1 minute.

IRIS NAVIGATION MAP INSTALLATION:
Care Point: The Navigation maps have been provided via USB stick as part of a previous software update
and should be reused. The maps are common for all models. Please refer to Table on Page 1 of this
document or refer to Appendix 2, to identify the correct Map Part Number for each market.
Care Point: The Navigation map installation is only applicable for markets with navigation support.
Please refer to Table on Page 1 of this document to determine whether navigation is available for the
respective market.
Care Point: The Navigation map for China and Hong Kong has not been sent via a USB drive to the dealers
and also will not be installed at the production line. The installation and activation needs to be completed at
the local dealer, please contact the regional office for further assistance.
Care Point: Do not turn off the engine or change the ignition state during the update process unless
explicitly stated within this update procedure.
1. Switch the ignition ON to ignition state 5 and start the engine.

3. Once the USB has been inserted, the system should provide a message stating that a USB device has
been detected.
4. After 1-2 minutes following screen will be displayed. Select Update (2).
5. The following screen (3) will appear when old files have been detected and need to be removed before
new files are loaded.

6. The following screen (4) will be displayed, stating the number of files to be copied and the current
progress. Depending on the map region to be installed, the number of files may differ from the example
below.
7. Press Done to complete the installation (5) and remove the USB drive.

8. Complete a Factory Data Reset by following Steps 23 - 26.
9. Wait until the system has fully rebooted, then turn the engine and ignition off.
