SERVICE ACTION: HOOD RELEASE CABLE,
INTERCOOLER CLAMP AND WINDSHIELD SIDE MOLDING (SA431)

SUBJECT:

 NOTICE
This bulletin has been revised to include additional information. New/revised
sections of this bulletin are indicated by a black bar in the margin area.
This bulletin provides the procedure to inspect and if necessary, repair the three (3) items listed
in the table below on some 2021 K5 (DL3A) vehicles produced between March 27, 2020
through July 14, 2020, for which the parts described may not have been properly installed
during assembly. Before conducting the procedure, verify the vehicle is included in the list of
affected VINs.

Hose clam may be loose, nut is not broken – requires tightening.

Left and Right windshield molding may not be seated properly.

 NOTICE
A Service Action is a repair program without customer notification that is performed
during the warranty period. Any dealer requesting to perform this repair outside the
warranty period will require DPSM approval.
Repair status for a VIN is provided on WebDCS (Service → Warranty Coverage →
Warranty Coverage Inquiry → Campaign Information). Not completed Recall / Service
Action reports are available on WebDCS (Consumer Affairs → Not Completed Recall
→ Recall VIN → Select Report), which includes a list of affected vehicles.

Hood Release Inspection and Repair Procedure:
1. Pull the hood release lever (A) located
on the lower left kick panel (B).

2a. In the front of the vehicle, locate the
hood latch (C) and open the hood.

2b. If the hood does not open, proceed to
step 3 to repair this concern.
2c. If the hood opens normally, proceed to
confirm hood release cable is attached
properly on step 7a.

3a. Partially remove the left door weather
strip (D) along the dotted yellow line.
3b. Remove the left door scuff trim (E).

Remove the hood release lever (A) and
lower left kick panel (B).
Note: SST 07120-11000 or equivalent
tool may be used to remove the hood
release lever.

5a. Remove the hood release bracket (F).

5b. Remove the release cable (G) from the
bracket (F).
Note: Bracket has two (2) retaining bolts,
refer to red outline area.

Pull the hood release cable (G) by hand
to release the hood.

7a. Check the hood release cable coupler is
attached properly and that the two cable
attachments (black and white ends) are
fully inserted into the mounting
bracket(s).

7b. If the cable is not fully inserted into the
bracket (NG), be sure to align and press
down firmly.
Note: Listen for click to confirm it is
secured in place, OK. (Refer image
shown on step 7a).

Reinstall all removed parts in the reverse
order of removal. Confirm hood latch
release is operating as designed.

9.

This action is now complete.

Intercooler Hose Clamp Inspection and Tightening:
1a. Locate the upper intercooler hose clamp
(A).

 NOTICE
A
loose
intercooler
hose
connection may trigger a MIL
ON with DTC P017200 - System
too rich (Bank 1).

1b. Inspect the intercooler hose clamp (A) to
intercooler tube connection. Ensure the
hose is properly installed to the locating
dimple and the hose clamp is squarely
positioned around the hose.



If the hose clamp or hose is NOT
positioned as described, proceed
to Step 1c/d.
If the hose is properly installed,
proceed to Step 2a.

1c. Loosen the hose clamp hex nut or
carefully pry off the cap (B) from the hex
nut with screwdriver on the clamp
retainer (as shown) and correct the
intercooler hose to intercooler pipe
orientation.

 NOTICE

Do not allow the nut cap to fall
in the engine compartment. Be
sure to discard of the nut
accordingly.
1d. Tighten the hose clamp using a torque
wrench.
Torque Specifications for nut:
43.4 - 60.8 lb. in. (4.9 - 6.7 Nm,
0.5 - 0.7 kgfm)

2a. Confirm that the hose clamp (A) break
away nut head (B) is not present. If so,
this action is complete.

2b. If the hose clamp (A) break away nut
head (B) is present:




Tighten the hose clamp break
away nut (B) until the nut head
breaks off the clamp
Pull on the intercooler hose to
verify that the hose is secure. This
action is now complete.

Windshield Trim Molding Inspection and Repair:
1.

Locate the left or right side windshield
trim molding (A).

2a. Check if the windshield trim molding is
not flush to the A-pillar or is loose. Lightly
pull on the following areas shown.




Repeat steps on the other side

If any area is not flush or is
loose, follow the re-install
procedure below.

Windshield Trim Molding Retension Steps (Left or Right):
1.

With trim molding removed from vehicle,
proceed to seat the tab on the molding at
bottom of windshield and cowl cover (B).

 NOTICE
Upon removal, it is important to
start from the top of the molding
to avoid damage.

2.

Align the molding with the bracket on the
A-pillar.
Refer to the Re-installation
Video by clicking:

After the top is fully seated work your
way down the trim piece seating it fully
until you reach the bottom.

 NOTICE
Start at the top of the molding,
seat it first, then the middle, and
finish at the bottom.

Make sure the molding is flush
with
the
A-Pillar
at
all
attachment points.
