Summary
During the course of quality controls, KTM
North America, Inc. has found that on select 2017 1090 ADVENTURE R models there is a possibility that the tail light could have a lower current draw than required. This could cause a tail light failure message to appear on the instrument cluster. To aid in preventing this failure message, replacement of the tail light is necessary.

INITIAL INFORMATION:
During the course of quality controls, KTM North America, Inc. has found that on select 2017 1090
ADVENTURE R models there is a possibility that the tail light could have a lower current draw than
required. This could cause a tail light failure message to appear on the instrument cluster. To aid in
preventing this failure message, replacement of the tail light is necessary.
KTM North America, Inc. is recommending that the tail light is replaced on all affected motorcycles
including the current inventory prior to PDI following the procedures given later in this document.
Please contact all of your customers who own affected motorcycles to have the tail light replaced as
soon as possible.
PROCEDURE FOR REPAIR:
Please reference the latest HTML repair manual in the KTM Dealer.net download center, or on the
CD-Rom (p.n.3206296) for additional instructions and tightening torques.

1. Remove the seat.
2. Remove the top luggage carrier with the grip handle on both the left and right sides.
3. Remove both the left and right luggage carriers as displayed in (Fig.1).

4. Gently and carefully pull the side panels away to remove the tail light mount screws (Fig.2).

6. Install the tail light in reverse order of disassembly.
7. Using the XC_1 tool, check the Central electronics MCU for this mapping file:
“K4KT1D-0410_L009.hex” If the file is not this one please update the MCU to this mapping file or
one of a higher number than provided here.
8. Check the tail light for correct operation and function by activating the brake system with the
ignition switched on.

5. Disconnect the tail light harness connection to fully remove the tail light (Fig.3).

This Technical Bulletin only affects certain VIN numbers! Please check the VIN by performing a
Motorcycle History search in KTM Dealer.net to determine if it’s affected. If the motorcycle is
affected you will see a link to the bulletin and its repair status in the history results. KTM North
America will not warranty units whose VIN numbers are not linked as this bulletin does not
apply to them. It is the responsibility of the dealer to determine if the unit requires this update
by checking the vehicle history and understanding the instructions provided by this bulletin.
