IMPORTANT PREPERATION STEPS:
Before beginning the ECU flashing (software update process), be sure to have the following tools
available and ready to ensure a timely and error free installation.
XC_1 software must be updated to #338 or higher (Fig 1). To update, click the icons (Fig 2).

INITIAL INFORMATION:
In the effort of providing the best customer experience possible, KTM
North America, Inc. is offering
ECU software updates on the select models listed above to bring all electronic systems to the latest
specifications. These updates will also provide the MY RIDE feature with Navigation capability free of
charge to the 2017 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R and incorporate the Navigation ability to the MY
RIDE already equipped on 2018 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R (TKC) and 1290 SUPER
ADVENTURE S models. MY RIDE was previously a pay to use feature.
In order to utilize the MY RIDE Navigation, the customer will need to purchase and download the MY
RIDE application on their smartphone. Visit www.ktm.com/my-ride for more information.
Due to having so many graphical user interface modifications to the latest software provided for the
BOSCH
combination instrument cluster, KTM
is providing excerpts of the most recent Owner’s Manual
from the model year 2018 SUPER ADVENTURE. The proper Owner’s Manual excerpt should be
provided to the customer after completion of this update by any means possible. They can be found
with the attachments accompanied with this bulletin.

The orange USB diagnostic cable p.n. 00029094031 is needed for flashing the BOSCH![]()
instrument cluster (Fig 3). This cable was auto-shipped to all dealers in September 2017 and
if needed can be ordered using the supplied part number.

The external power supply “BV8087” must be connected with the scanbox to the bike (Fig 4)
and supplied with the AC power. Either the AC power from the wall adapter or using the
battery connection leads will provide constant voltage to the scanbox and ECU’s (Fig 5).

PROCEDURE FOR REPAIR:
Please always use the XCharge Pro battery charger & maintainer on “Backup Mode” while performing
ECU flashing.
1. Power on the motorcycle with the passive ignition key (Fig 7) by holding it directly on top of the
antenna. If only the FOB is available – remove the battery from it so that it functions the same as a
passive key (Fig 8).

2. Connect the XC_1 to the diagnostic port as shown in Fig 4 or Fig 5 with the external power supply
adapter, preferably using a USB cable connection to the scanbox. If a cable connection is not
possible then using the Bluetooth wireless scanbox connection is okay.
DO NOT CONNECT THE ORANGE USB CABLE AT THIS TIME
4. On the 2018 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R (TKC) and S models, flash the latest mapping files (or
higher) into the corresponding ECU’s;
a. HLU: HLKT_60700030017
b. EWS: KEKT_60700120309
5. After successfully updating the required ECU’s, it is safe to install the USB drivers needed to
flash update the BOSCH
instrument cluster. It is possible that Dealer Services may have
already assisted with installation of the USB drivers on your XC_1 computer.
Installation of the USB drivers is only needed to be done one time.
a. If you have the USB drivers installed, you may proceed with connecting the orange
USB cable to the third USB port (highest on left side of the XC_1 PC in Fig 6) and to
the motorcycle phone compartment USB port. Follow the instructions from Step 12 in
the file attachment “USB DRIVER INSTALLATION”.
b. If you do not have the USB drivers installed, follow the instructions at the beginning in
the file attachment “USB DRIVER INSTALLATION”.

3. On the 2017 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R (TKC) model, flash the latest mapping files (or higher)
into the corresponding ECU’s;
a. MCU: K6KT1D-0401_V026

6. After completing the update of the all of the ECU’s with BOSCH
instrument cluster, it is necessary
to disconnect the external power supply from the motorcycle diagnostic port, shutoff the ignition for
30 seconds.
7. Turn on the ignition and enter the “VDO” Instrument cluster ECU, select the “FUNCTIONS” button
and be sure to program all of the features and functions to suit the particular model motorcycle
(Fig 8).

9. Return to the home screen in XC_1, Autoscan the ECU’s, and select “Delete all FC’s”.

This Technical Bulletin only affects certain VIN numbers! Please check the VIN by performing a
Motorcycle History search in KTM
Dealer.net to determine if it’s affected. If the motorcycle is
affected you will see a link to the bulletin and its repair status in the history results. KTM

apply to them. It is the responsibility of the dealer to determine if the unit requires this update
by checking the vehicle history and understanding the instructions provided by this bulletin.
