Initial Vehicle Intake Procedure for Odyne Hybrid Systems
MODELS AFFECTED:
1000/2000/3000/4000 Vehicles Equipped with Odyne Hybrid Systems
Introduction:

The primary function of this publication is to provide the Allison channel with information regarding the Odyne

Hybrid Systems.
Recommended Practices and Contacts:

• Follow all Safety and High Voltage procedures supplied by Odyne in the associated Service Publications.

• Read, understand, and be familiar with Odyne’s publications regarding Hybrid accessories.

• Keep up-to-date copies of Odyne publications on components incorporated in the Odyne Hybrid Systems.

• Download and install the latest version of Odyne’s diagnostic software. Review any documentation included

with the software.

• Perform basic component tests per Odyne’s instructions during the troubleshooting process.

During the troubleshooting process, if you discover an issue with an Odyne component or need assistance with

testing Odyne components, please contact Odyne. Contact information is provided on the following page.

Odyne hybrid’s initial vehicle intake procedure

1. Identify the vehicle as an Odyne unit. There should be a tag on the driver’s door that has the

Odyne emblem. Also there will be a green display on the dash in the cab.

2. Remove the Key from the ignition. This ensures the system is no longer active and the engine

cannot start automatically.

3. Always wait 2 minutes to allow the system to go through its shut down sequence.

4. Verify our display has shut down (no longer lighting up green)

5. Disable our system.

a. Connect the service disable plug (pictures shown below).

b. Or know that our system is disabled with the key in the off position.

6. Confirm that our system is disabled by looking at our display. The display should either be blank

(no longer green) or there should be a red light on.

a. Red light=system Disabled / No red light=system active

7. Know that with the Odyne system disabled the truck engine will not start on its own and neither

will the PTO spin on its own.

8. Conduct hybrid repairs in a safe, dry, and appropriate place.

Important Points to Remember


Understand the system you are working on.

Always test for voltage before working on a high voltage system. Never assume the absence of

High Voltage.

Orange Cabling indicates High Voltage.

Odyne uses a HVIL (High Voltage Interlock Loop) system in our vehicles that will disable the

system if it detects a fault with the High Voltage wiring.

If you need to perform a stall test, please remove the whole driveshaft when isolating the noise.

There is an operator’s manual in each truck that describes our system.
Deciphering what Odyne model unit you are working on


The quickest way to tell what type of Odyne model unit you are working on is to look for our door

tag.

The door tag will note the Odyne model, VIN, Shop number, and more.


Once you have deciphered which model you are working with you may now disable the Odyne

system the proper way.

On G2V2 trucks and older you will need to use the J33K connector.

On G2V3 trucks or newer you will need to use the J20C (Odyne’s data link connecter).

Either method you will need to connect the female plug to its connector.

The female plug should be zip tied to the harness next to the connector.

On a G2V2 truck there is a 2 pin plug under that dash (shown below)
On a G2V3 truck and newer there is a female plug for our data connector J20C (shown below)
