reached” stored in the Master Engine Control Unit (ECU)
Technical background
There have been several Customer complaints of low oil pressure warning displayed on the DIP, DTC’s relating to oil pressure may also be
stored within the Master ECU.
The root cause of the warning and DTC’s are not yet fully understood, however, for all complaints so far, changing the engine lubricating oil and
engine oil filter normally resolves the concern.

Measure
With a confirmed Customer complaint of low oil pressure warning displayed on the DIP and Diagnostic Trouble Codes “P052400:
Engine Oil Pressure Too Low” and/or “P15AA00: Engine oil pressure - Lower limit not reached” stored in the Master ECU, raise a full
technical DISS query and proceed with this document.

NOTE: DO NOT CONTINUE WITH THIS DOCUMENT IF THE ENGINE EXHIBITS ANY ABNORMAL MECHANICAL NOISE OR
HAS AN ENGINE LUBRICATING OIL LEAK – SEEK FURTHER ADVICE VIA THE DISS QUERY.

Section 1
Using the Bentley approved diagnostic tool take a vehicle Diagnostic Log and attach to the DISS query.
Read Measured Values

Note: - Measured Values IDE02756 – “ Number of manual engine starts ” and IDE02757 – “ Number of automatic
engine starts ” are currently only available for Continental and Flying Spur series vehicles, DO NOT attempt to record
Measured Values for Bentayga.
Read Measured Values IDE02756 and IDE02757 as follows.
Connect the Bentley approved diagnostic tool to the On Board Diagnostic (OBD) socket.
From the desktop, launch Off-board Diagnostic Information System Service (ODIS).
Select “ Start Diagnosis” and follow the on screen prompts.
Select “ Control units” and then “Engine Control Module 1 (01 – Engine Control Module 1)” – figure 1.

Provide a detailed description of the Customer drive cycle when the symptom occurs – add information to the DISS query.

•

Check and confirm the engine lubricating oil level is correct, refer to Repair Group 17 Engine Lubrication / 6.0L W12 TSI
/ Engine oil – To check – add result to the DISS query.

•

Measure the actual engine lubricating oil pressure, refer to Repair Group 17 Engine Lubrication / 6.0L W12 TSI /
Engine oil pressure – To check - add result to the DISS query.

IMPORTANT:- If this is a repeat visit by the customer for an engine lubricating oil pressure warning, proceed to Section 2.
•

Using a suitable, clean and sealable container, take an engine lubricating oil sample, this may be required for analysis (minimum 250ml).

•

Renew the engine lubricating oil and engine lubricating oil filter refer to Repair Group 17 Engine Lubrication / 6.0L W12 TSI /
Engine oil and filter – To renew – see note below for important information.

Note: - Ensure the engine lubricating oil is still hot when draining.
The engine lubricating oil should be drained through a fine gauze filter, once fully drained check the filter for oil
contaminants or particles. If contaminants or particles are found place into a clean sealed container and retain - seek
Technical advice via the DISS query. If contaminants or particles are not evident proceed with this document.
•

Retain the original engine lubricating oil filter, it may be required for analysis. Use a suitable sealed container to prevent contamination.

•

Conduct a road test, as follows:-

•

The road test should be a minimum of 30km (18.6 miles)

•

Drive the vehicle until normal Engine coolant operating temperature is achieved – c:90oC.

•

The following procedure will cycle the engine lubricating oil pump from low duty to high duty:-

•

Observing local highway rules and regulations, find a safe and suitable location to conduct the following:-

•

Place the transmission selector lever into Manual gear mode “M”, proceed to drive the vehicle, use the steering wheel gear selector

paddles to select gears, when in second gear gently accelerate from 1500rpm to 4500rpm holding second gear, repeat this proce dure
fifteen times.
•

Using transmission Drive mode “D” and sport mode, observe local highway rules and regulations, accelerate from standstill whi lst
depressing the accelerator pedal a maximum 25 to 50% of travel - repeat five times. Do not use 100% accelerator pedal

input
during this test.
•
•

Caution: For Continental Series vehicles
•

If Sport mode is selected on the drive dynamics control, the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is switched off, if the driver has selected
manual gear mode “M” the transmission will not automatically up shift to the next gear.

•

Once the road test is complete use the Bentley approved diagnostic tool to take a vehicle Diagnostic Log and attach to the DISS query.

•

If, during the road test the low oil pressure warning has NOT displayed on the DIP and Diagnostic Trouble Codes “ P052400: Engine
Oil Pressure Too Low” and/or “P15AA00: Engine oil pressure - Lower limit not reached” are NOT stored within
the ECU the vehicle should be handed back to the Customer.

•

If, during the road test the low oil pressure warning HAS displayed on the DIP and Diagnostic Trouble Codes “ P052400: Engine
Oil Pressure Too Low” and/or “P15AA00: Engine oil pressure - Lower limit not reached” ARE stored within the
ECU proceed to Section 2 of this document.

Only continue to Section 2 of this document if the low oil pressure warning has reappeared on the DIP during the Section 1 road test.

Section 2 - Repeat v is it by the customer for engine lubricating oil pressure warning or oil pressure warning has reappeared on
the DIP during the Section 1 road test.
If this is a repeat visit by the customer for an engine lubricating oil pressure warning, attach a current diagnostic log to the DISS query.
A sample of Engine lubricating oil (minimum 250ml) should be taken and retained for further analysis, this will be advised vi a the DISS query.
If the low oil pressure warning is present on the DIP following the extended road test in section 1 or this is a repeat visit by the customer for an
engine lubricating oil pressure warning, continue to remove the Valve For Oil Pressure Control (N428) - figure 7.
When the Valve For Oil Pressure Control has been removed carefully examine it and the associated location on the engine for any
signs of internal contamination, debris or damage. If no contamination, debris or damage is noted seek Technical advice and the next steps via
the DISS query.

Only proceed with the following if debris HAS been found on the valve or associated location on the engine
If debris is found on the Valve or the associated location on the engine, capture images of the debris in-situ, ensure the images are of sufficient
high quality to clearly show the location and type of debris, attach all images to the DISS query.
Clean all debris from the Valve location on the engine and replace the Valve with a new part. Retain the original Valve and debris in
clean sealed containers, the Valve and debris may be required for further analysis, this will be advised via the DISS query.
Repeat the road test from Section 1, ensure the low oil pressure warning does not display on the DIP. If a low oil pressure warning reoccurs seek
further Technical advice via the DISS query.
