HARNESS
Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before customer
delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please perform the procedure
the next time the vehicle is in the shop.

SITUATION
An improperly routed engine wiring harness may become damaged if it contacts the air conditioning (AC)
compressor pulley.
Note: This service action only affects certain BMW
of North America (BMW NA) company owned vehicles.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as “Open” when checked either in
AIR, the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with ISPA NEXT.
CAUSE
Incorrect routing of the engine electrical harness during assembly.
CORRECTION
Inspect the engine harness and secure or replace as needed.
PROCEDURE
1. Remove the front underbody protection, as described in the repair instructions REP 51 47 490
“Removing and installing/replacing the front underbody protection.”

2. Check the wiring harness for damage in the area of the air conditioning compressor
a. If the wiring harness is damaged or abraded:
The wiring harness must be replaced. Ensure the replacement wiring harness is properly routed as
shown to the left. The heat-resistant cable tie is not needed if the engine harness is replaced and
properly routed.
Note: REP 12 51 303 "Removing and installing/replacing the engine sensor system module 2
wiring harness section" for cylinders 5-8 is scheduled to be released in ISTA 4.22.3x. (expected
early March 2020).
3. If the wiring harness has not been damaged:
Secure the wiring harness to the air conditioning refrigerant line as shown below.

Note: Only the heat-resistant cable tie must be used to secure the wiring harness to the metal crimp of the
air conditioning refrigerant line as shown above.

following part numbers may result with the wrong part number being invoiced and installed, this
could delay the payment of claim.
