This bulletin applies to all Bendix® PP-1® and PP-8™ valves in applications where the exhaust port is plumbed
external to the cab. It is mostly applicable to vehicles used in high-park-brake-cycle count applications, like refuse
vehicles or city buses.
When a heavily-worn PP-1 or PP-8 control valve is combined with restrictive exhaust plumbing, the vehicle park
brake force may be reduced. Valve wear may be the result of high-park-brake-cycle count and/or sideloading.
Sideloading can be caused by pushing or pulling the valve button at an angle and not in line with the valve or from
hanging objects from the button. See the table below for troubleshooting recommendations.

DIAGNOSING A LEAKING PP-1 AND PP-8 PARK CONTROL VALVE
When performing any inspection or service, follow the steps below and refer to the guidelines outlined in the PP-1
and PP-8 Service Data sheet SD-03-3611, or instruction sheet as applicable.
1. Run the vehicle until the air system reaches full reservoir pressure (120-135 psi). Turn off the vehicle.
2. Move the control valve button & plunger from side to side and up and down. Do not push the button in. If there
is any play, or if audible leakage is detected, the valve must be replaced.
3. Identify the dash valve exhaust hose location (generally near the grill). With the button pulled out (exhaust position),
there should be no audible leakage. Rotate the button and plunger in a clockwise direction – stopping every 90º
to check for leakage. A second inspector near the end of the exhaust hose would be helpful for this procedure.
There should be no audible leakage in the cab or from the exhaust hose at any point of rotation. Using a soap
solution, check for leaks. The allowable leakage should not exceed a 1” bubble in 5 seconds at any location on
the valve.
4. Push the button in (applied position) and check for leaks. The leakage should not exceed a 1” bubble in 3 seconds
at any location on the valve.
5. Reduce the supply pressure. At a pressure from 60 to 20 psi, depending on the spring installed, the button should
pop out automatically, exhausting the delivery volume. (This does not apply to the PP-8 or some PP-1 valves
without an automatic exhaust feature).

NOTICE DE REMPLACEMENT DES VALVES DE COMMANDE USÉES BENDIX® PP-1® ET PP-8™ DES FREINS
DE STATIONNEMENT
Ce bulletin concerne les valves Bendix® PP-1® et PP-8™ dont l’orifice d’évacuation est raccordé à l’extérieur de la cabine, en
particulier les véhicules qui sollicitent fréquemment les freins de stationnement, comme les camions à ordures et les autobus.
Objet :

La puissance de ces freins risque d’être compromise si la valve de commande PP-1 ou PP-8 est très usée et que sa tuyauterie
contrarie l’évacuation de l’air. L’usage fréquent de son bouton ou un effort latéral répété useront la valve. La valve subit un
effort latéral quand on enfonce ou tire son bouton de travers (dans une direction oblique par rapport à la valve), ou encore
quand on accroche des objets au bouton. Cf. ci-dessous le tableau du dépannage recommandé.

ESSAI D’ÉTANCHÉITÉ DES VALVES DE COMMANDE DES FREINS DE STATIONNEMENT PP-1 ET PP-8
Lors d’une vérification ou d’une intervention, suivre les étapes ci-dessous et se référer aux directives de la fiche technique
SD-03-3611 des valves PP-1 et PP-8 ou, s’il y a lieu, à la fiche d’instructions.
1. Faire tourner le moteur pour établir la pression maximale de réservoir du circuit d’air (120-135 psi [830-930 kPa]). Couper
le moteur.
2. Remuer le bouton et le poussoir de la valve d’un côté à l’autre et de haut en bas. Ne pas enfoncer le bouton. Remplacer
la valve s’il y a du jeu ou si une fuite audible se manifeste.
3. Repérer le tuyau d’évacuation de la valve (en général, près de la calandre). Lorsqu’on tire le bouton (évacuation de l’air),
aucune fuite audible ne doit se manifester. Tourner le bouton et le poussoir dans le sens horaire – en s’arrêtant à chaque
90º pour vérifier s’il y a une fuite. La présence d’un collègue, près de l’extrémité du tuyau d’évacuation, sera utile à ce
stade. La cabine et le tuyau ne doivent manifester aucune fuite audible pendant la rotation du bouton. Vérifier l’étanchéité
avec une solution savonneuse. La fuite admissible ne doit pas dépasser une bulle de 25 mm en 5 secondes, quel que soit
l’endroit sur la valve.
4. Enfoncer le bouton (fermeture de l’orifice d’évacuation), puis vérifier s’il y a une fuite. La fuite ne doit pas dépasser une
bulle de 25 mm en 3 secondes, quel que soit l’endroit sur la valve.
5. Diminuer la pression d’entrée. Le bouton doit sauter à une pression entre 60 et 20 psi [410-140 kPa] selon le ressort installé
(évacuation du volume d’air refoulé). (Ce n’est toutefois pas le cas pour les valves PP-8 et pour quelques valves PP-1 qui
n’ont pas la fonction d’évacuation automatique.)

Este boletín corresponde a todas las válvulas BendixeBay logo® PP-1® y PP-8™ en aplicaciones en las que el escape está en la parte
externa de la cabina. Es más que todo pertinente para los vehículos que se utilizan en aplicaciones con ciclos muy frecuentes
de frenado y aparcamiento, como camiones de basura o autobuses urbanos.
Cuando una válvula de control PP-1 o PP-8 que está muy desgastada se combina con un tubo de escape restrictivo, podría
reducirse la fuerza de frenado al estacionar el vehículo. El desgaste de la válvula podría ser el resultado de ciclos muy
frecuentes de frenado y aparcamiento o por cargas laterales. Las cargas laterales pueden ocurrir al empujar o halar el botón
de la válvula en un ángulo que no esté alineado con la válvula o por colgar objetos del botón. Consulte en la siguiente tabla
las recomendaciones para la resolución de problemas.

DETECTAR FUGAS EN LA VÁLVULA DE CONTROL DE APARCAMIENTO PP-1 Y PP-8
Al llevar a cabo una inspección o servicio, siga los siguientes pasos y consulte los lineamientos que se establecen en la ficha
técnica de servicio SD-03-3611 para PP-1 y PP-8 o a la hoja de instrucciones, si procede.
1. Mantenga el vehículo en funcionamiento hasta que la presión del sistema neumático alcance la presión total del depósito
(120-135 psi). Apague el vehículo.
2. Mueva el botón de la válvula de control y el émbolo de un lado a otro y de arriba a abajo. No empuje el botón. Si hay juego
o si puede detectar una fuga por su sonido, deberá reemplazar la válvula
3. Identifique la ubicación de la manguera de escape de la válvula de tablero (por lo general cerca de la parrilla). Con el
botón extraído (en posición de escape), no debería escucharse ninguna fuga. Gire el botón y el émbolo en la dirección de
las manillas del reloj; deténgase cada 90º para revisar si hay fugas. Sería útil que alguien más inspeccionara el extremo
de la manguera de escape para este procedimiento. No se debería escuchar fugas ni en la cabina ni en la manguera de
escape, en ningún punto de la rotación. Pruebe si hay fugas usando una solución jabonosa. Una fuga permisible no debe
formar una burbuja de más de 1” en 5 segundos en cualquier lugar de la válvula.
4. Empuje el botón (en la posición aplicada) y revise si hay fugas. La fuga no debe formar una burbuja de más de 1” en 3
segundos en cualquier lugar de la válvula.
5. Reduzca la presión de suministro. A una presión de 60 a 20 psi, dependiendo del muelle instalado, el botón debería saltar
automáticamente y vaciar el volumen de descarga. (Esto no aplica a la válvula PP-8 ni a ciertas válvulas PP-1 que no
tienen la función de escape automático).
