This field campaign does not necessarily apply to all the above-mentioned coaches.
The owners of the coaches affected by this field campaign will be advised by a letter
indicating the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of each coach concerned.
Read this entire procedure before beginning work.
Use Safe Shop Practices at All Times.
To avoid personal injury:
a. Proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn. Safety glasses and
protective gloves are required for working with DEF Fluid.
b. Turn the main battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
c. Ensure that both the front and the rear wheels are chocked.
d. Position the ENGINE RUN and ENGINE START switches on the engine
compartment remote control box to the OFF position.
e. Allow enough time for components to cool down prior to working in the engine
compartment.

J-Coach ESP/ABS Pressure Sensor Rework
1.0 Description
Customer Complaint:
Motor Coach Industries ("MCI") is advising owners that certain MY2018 and MY2019
J4500 and MY19 J3500 coaches have intermittent ESP/ABS plausibility fault codes (SPN
1067) from the Bendix ESP/ABS controller. This results in the loss of adaptive cruise
control and a warning light will illuminate.
Cause:
The Bendix ESP/ABS pressure sensor electrical connectors (ST-P544/ST-P545) were
reversed during installation.
Corrective Action:
MCI strongly urges owners of the affected coaches to have the following procedure
performed as soon as possible.
2.0 Material requirements
No material required.
3.0 Special Tools
No special tools required.
4.0 Inspection
Locate the front junction box (FJB) on the front left side of the coach. Open the front
junction box by pulling the handle by the driver left hand console.

Under the driver’s floor in the FJB, locate the two pressure sensors on the pedal assembly
fittings. Ensure the electrical connector labeled ST-P544 is connected to pressure sensor
1 and the electrical connector labeled ST-P545 is connected to pressure sensor 2 on the
ESP/ABS Bendix harness. Pressure sensor 1 is connected to the green air delivery hose
and pressure sensor 2 is connected to the red air delivery hose.
If either of the sensors’ electrical connections are incorrect, continue to section 5.0.
Otherwise the work is complete.
5.0 Correcting pressure sensor electrical connections
Remove both electrical connectors labeled ST-P545 and ST-P544. Connect the electrical
connector labeled ST-P544 to pressure sensor 1, green air delivery hose, and the
electrical connector labeled ST-P545 to pressure sensor 2, red air delivery hose. Secure
both sensor wires with zip ties as needed.

6.0 Testing and Validation
Once both pressure sensors’ electrical connections are corrected, cycle the power on the
Main Battery Disconnect switch. Using the steering wheel controls, enter the diagnostic
menu in the IP and select ABS ETC. The plausibility error (SPN 1067) should no longer
be active. This completes the procedure.

7.0 Field Change Program Conditions:
A labor allowance of 0.5 hours will be granted for the rework.
This labor allowance will be credited to your MCI Fleet Support Parts Account on receipt
of the attached “MCI Field Change Program Verification Form” and a “Warranty Claim
Form” as detailed in your Owner Warranty manual to MCI’s Warranty department. An
“MCI Field Change Program Verification Form” needs to be submitted for each VIN
affected. Photocopy the attached “MCI Field Change Program Verification Form” as
required for the number of affected coaches in your fleet.
This program will end on August 31, 2020.
Motor Coach apologizes for any inconvenience resulting from this campaign but urges
you to implement this change as soon as possible.
