Subject: 12" x 2" Electric Brakes to Utilize Dual Retractor Spring
In March of 2018, Dexter
released product bulletin 394 which introduced a running production change to a single retractor spring design
on all 12" x 2" 6K and 7K electric brake assemblies. The intended benefits to production efficiency with this change did not produce the
desired results, therefore Dexter will transition back to the dual retractor spring design that was in place prior to the aforementioned product
bulletin.
Again, this running change affects all 12" x 2" 6K and 7K capacity electric brake assemblies used on Dexter #11, #12, #12T, #12AG, D52,
D60 and D70 axles. The design differences are shown in the below pictures.
Complete brakes with either the dual or single retractor spring designs are interchangeable and can be used on the opposing sides of the
same axle.
The dual retractor spring design utilizes the existing brake shoes; therefore no change is needed to the shoe and lining kit. However, the
brake spring kit will now include both the dual and single retractor springs to service new and old brakes in the field.

When performing service, be sure to identify which version of brake you have. The pictures below highlight the different anchor posts used
on both the single and dual retractor spring designs. Like components should always be replaced with like components, as using different
component combinations can cause brake performance issues or potentially cause the brake to malfunction.
