SITUATION
A wind noise can be heard from the area of the side view mirrors, where the mirrors attach to the front
doors.
CAUSE
Wind is entering the vehicle from around the foam corner insulation at the side view mirror mounting points.
CORRECTION
Add additional foam to the side view mirror corner insulation for both side view mirrors.
PROCEDURE
1. Ensure the side view mirrors and covers are correctly installed. Correct any sources of wind noise caused
by improper installation if found.
If no other source of the noise can be identified, continue to step 2.
2. Remove both door trim panels following repair instructions REP 51 41 000 “Removing and installing left
or right front door trim panel”.
3. Remove the foam corner insulation from the attachment area of the side view mirrors.
4. Cut 2 strips of foam (PN 51 77 7 445 425).
Note: Foam should be cut into pieces 84mm
x 35mm x 9mm as shown to the left.
5. Remove the adhesive backing from a foam strip.
Install one of the foam strips on each foam
corner insulation in the area shown to the
left
Press the foam strip firmly on the entire
surface for maximum adhesion

6. Completely reassemble the vehicle and retest. Recommend to reach at least 35 mph.

Work time labor operation code 51 00 001 is not considered a Main labor operation; however, it does require
an individual punch time and an explanation on the repair order and in the claim comments section.
