Complaints of tier clearance in the wheelwell being insufficient. These
“banana” shackle links will increase the tier clearance in the wheelwell area on
a single axle trailer up to 1” or more.

• 4 of part #: 0294245 (Bolt, Shackle 0.44-20x2.88 Black (zinc))
• 4 of part #: 0297635 (Nut, 0.44-20 Prevision Torque Zinc)
• 4 of part #: 0337261 (Shackle, Link 4.1 or 5.2 to hole center Zinc)
• Ratchet wrench or impact driver
• 11/16” socket for the nuts
• 13/16” open end wrench for the bolt heads
• Small sledge hammer (5lb)
• 2 Jackstands (minimum 3 ton capacity)
• Floor jack
• Torque wrench (ft/lbs)

Banana shackle link kit for single axle trailer. These shackle links are longer than stock ones.
Banana shackle links are installed on the trailer as shown in this photo.
Double holes, will be at the bottom of the links.
The bend in the link will be facing toward the front of the trailer.

Install bolts in the banana shackle links.
BEFORE DRIVING BOLTS IN BOTH SHACKLE LINKS – THE LINKS MUST BE OPPOSITE EACH OTHER (FIG 5).
BOLT HEADS WILL BE TO THE OUTSIDE OF EACH SHACKLE LINK.
Place a bolt in the single hole at the top of one shackle link (Fig 2)
Place a bolt in the bottom hole of one shackle link (Fig 2)
Drive the bolts into the shackle link with the small sledge hammer.
Bolt heads must be flush with the shackle link.

 Bolts must be driven into 2 of the shackle links as shown in this photo.
 The bolt heads will be on the outside, and the curve in the shackle link will be facing to the front of the
trailer. (Refer to Fig 2)
FIG 6:
 Jack up the rear of the trailer on the frame rail until the tire is approximately 1” off the ground.
 Install a jackstand under the frame rail approximately half way between the rear of the unit and the tire.
 Repeat this procedure on the other side of the trailer.

 Remove the nuts from the factory shankle links.
 Use the 11/16” socket for the nuts, and 13/16” wrench for the bolt heads.
 Remove both nuts from the shackle link on each side of the trailer.
 Do not re-use these nuts on the new shackle links. Discard them.

 Place the floor jack under the axle just behind the spring on one side of the trailer.
FIG 10:
 Jack up the axle just enough to relieve pressure on the spring hanger bracket and the spring so the shackle
can be pulled free.
 You may have to tap lightly on the bolts to bump them free.

Factory shackle link and bolts removed.
Floor jack should still be under the axle.
Install the new banana shackle link with the bolts as shown.
Bolt heads should be closest to the tire, nuts will be on the inside.
Curve of the link faces toward the front of the trailer.
Adjust floor jack so the new shackle link can be installed in the spring hanger bracket and spring.

Install the shackle link (without bolts) on the inside of the spring hanger bracket and spring.
Install the two nuts on the bolts, and tighten finger tight.
Use the 13/16” wrench on the bolt head, and the 11/16” socket and torque wrench (on the nut side).
USE NEW HARDWARE WITH THE NEW BANANA SHACKLES.
TORQUE THE BOLTS TO 45 FT/LBS.

Move the jack under the axle on the other side of the trailer.
Repeat Fig 9 through Fig 14 on the other side of the trailer.
Remove the jack from under the axle.
Jack up the frame rail at the rear of the trailer to remove the two jackstands.
