Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before
customer delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please perform
the procedure the next time the vehicle is in the shop.

SERVICE ACTION: REPLACE KAFAS (CAMERA-BASED
DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEM) CAMERA

AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves approximately 7,462 vehicles (G05, G07, G14, G15, G20 and G29
models) produced from March 2018 to May 2019.
Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as “Open” when checked either
in AIR, the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader.

SITUATION
A malfunction of the KAFAS camera can occur due to a voltage supply fault. This triggers a Check
Control Message (CCM) to be displayed sporadically during the drive cycle “Driver Assistance support restricted. Permanent Driver Assistance restriction. Must be
checked by the Service Partner.”

Note: The Drivers Assistance Systems are temporarily not available during this time. Once the
warning clears itself, then the system is reactivated and becomes operational again. This may occur
multiple times during the drive cycle.

CAUSE
KAFAS camera hardware.

CORRECTION
Replace the KAFAS camera.

PROCEDURE
1. Remove and install KAFAS camera according to repair instructions REP 66 51 030.

Note: If ISTA 4.18.x or higher is being used, refer to REP 66 51 561 – Removing KAFAS
camera and REP 66 51 571 – installing KAFAS camera
2. Connect the BMW-approved battery charger.
3. Program and encode the vehicle using the ISTA 4.18.30 or higher
 Target Integration level is 19-07-539 or higher
 Estimated ISTA availability is early August 2019 (pending verification)
4. Depending on the follow-up list, carry out a vehicle test and delete the fault memory if needed
Always connect a BMW-approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10) when
performing programming.

Note: Other small parts such as screws, nuts and seals which must be replaced according to
the ISTA repair instructions must be selected from the Electronic Parts Catalog according to the
respective vehicle type, and invoiced under the special defect code.
In principle, parts requiring replacement as part of a Technical Campaign are not subject to the
TeileClearing process.

claim this item under the Defect Code noted above as follows:

Sublet Code 2 - Itemize the AMS sublet amount on the repair order and in the claim comment
section.

Programming and Encoding - Vehicle Control Units (RO and Claim Comments Required)
The programming procedure automatically reprograms and encodes all vehicle control modules which
do not have the latest software i-level. If one or more control module failures occur during this
programming procedure:
Please claim this consequential control module-related repair work under the defect code listed
in this bulletin with the applicable AIR labor operations.
Please explain this additional work (The why and what) on the repair order and in the claim comments
section.
For control module failures that occurred prior to performing this programming procedure:
When covered under an applicable limited warranty, claim this control module-related repair
work using the applicable defect code and labor operations (including diagnosis) in AIR.
