DELIVERY STOP: INSPECTION OF C-PILLAR
This Service Information bulletin replaces SI B51 12 19 dated April 2019

AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves 25 G05s produced from April 19 to April 23, 2019.
Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as “Open” when checked either in
AIR, the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader.

SITUATION
A crack may be present on the left C-Pillar. The crack does not affect the structure of the vehicle.

CAUSE
During production, the sheet metal may have split.

CORRECTION
Inspect the left C-Pillar for cracks. Repair if necessary.

PROCEDURE
1. Remove the left upper C-Pillar trim following repair instructions REP 51 43 251 “Removing and
installing/replacing trim panel for rear left or right roof pillar (C-pillar).

2. Inspect the C-pillar for a crack in the area circled.
Note: If a crack is present, it will be located on the upper
back side of the C-pillar, facing the luggage compartment area.
For a better inspection, use a flashlight to illuminate the C-Pillar
through the access hole shown by the arrow to the left.

Was a crack found?
• Yes: Continue to step 3
• No: Re-assemble the vehicle, no further correction is
required

3. If a crack was observed: Remove the headliner from the
vehicle following repair instructions REP 51 44 013
“Removing and installing headlining (for equipment
specification with panorama roof).

4. Drill a 3mm hole at each end of the crack.

5. Using welding blankets, completely protect all the areas
around the crack from damage during future steps.
Warning: Do NOT attempt to perform the following
repairs without ensuring that the interior of the vehicle is
completely protected against flying sparks and/or primer
overspray.
6. Remove the paint and primer from the area around the crack
to prepare for welding.
7. MIG weld the crack closed, ensuring there are no pin holes
present after complete.

8. Grind the weld smooth and clean the area to prepare for
primer.
9. Apply Primer over the area of repair.

10. Apply cavity protection to the inside of the C-pillar using the
access hole (arrow).
11. Completely re-assemble the vehicle.

Paint Work
Invoice this repair work in sublet on the repair order at the actual cost charged with no handling or
markup. The sublet amount must also include any discounts or allowances.
The appropriate charge for the “necessary repair-related work procedures” is determined by comparing
the charged amount against the corresponding amount that is based on your warranty rates.
Prior to performing the repair, calculate your center’s repair cost and then obtain outside repair
estimate(s) for price comparison purposes.

It is your center’s responsibility to review the repair cost estimate prior to the repair being
performed. This will help ensure that the amount requested for the body repair work is
customary, fair and reasonable. Also, it must not exceed the scope of the repair work described
in this bulletin.
Itemize the claimed sublet amount on the repair order and in claim comment section.
Claim Repair Comments
Unless additional related/in conjunction work was required (not addressed and/or included in one of
the options provided above), then only reference the SIB number and the work package (Pkg) number
performed in the RO technician notes and in the claim comments (For example: B41 02 19 WP 1 or
B41 02 19 WP 2 with Body Shop sublet invoice explanation).
