Overview:

Blue Bird and HSM Quality/Engineering teams have determined that certain NexGen lap belt ready
school bus seats manufactured from September 2017 to April 2018 have shown a history of breaking at
the upper joint of the back rest assembly. HSM testing has shown this issue is not a compliance concern
and examination shows it does not pose a safety concern. HSM has developed a Voluntary Technical
Service Bulletin (SB18-0016 Rev 2). HSM will provide parts at no cost and will cover limited labor
reimbursement for installation of the repair.

Affected Units:

2019 Blue Bird All American School Buses manufactured from October 27, 2017 through March 29, 2018
and 2019 Blue Bird Vision School Buses manufactured from September 19, 2017 through April 12, 2018.
A separate printout will be provided listing all buses in your territory that are affected by this service
bulletin. Service Bulletin $19ZS will be mailed to all owners on record. Be sure to review your list and
advise of any incorrect owner names and/or addresses. On the subject buses, the Dealer is to execute
the seat repair in accordance with Work Instruction 7.5-1050.

5, REINSTALL FOAM ONTO FRAME AND PUSH DOWN TO ASSURE INSIDE FOAM CHANNEL IS AGAINST FRAME TOP TUBE.

6A, INSTALL COVER BY CAREFULLY PULLING COVER BACK DOWNWARD ON ALL SIDES UNTIL REACHING SLOTS WITHIN BACK OF
FOAM. ILL #3

School Bus Seat - NexGen LBR Seats

ISSUE:

Round Tube on the Top of Seat Frame is breaking at the weld. This is located at the top round
tube and side square tube union.

REMMEDY:

Remove any existing screws that will interfere with the Connector. Install Connector Channel
overlapping the round tubing and square tubing using (2) #12 x 1” Ig. screws. There will be (2)
screws per side. Note: the Connectors are different, one for the left side and one for the right
side. Mounting Screws will be installed from the rear of the Seat Frame. See INS-187.

VEHICLE PREPARATION:
1 THE VEHICLE MUST BE PARKED ON A FLAT LEVEL SURFACE.

2 VEHICLE IGNITION MUST BE IN THE OFF POSITION.
3 THE VEHICLES PARK BRAKE MUST BE ENGAGED AND WHELL CHAUKS MUST BE

4 ENSURE ADEQUATE LIGHTING IS USED DURING THE SERVICE OPERATIONS.

REPAIR INSTRUCTION:
