Issue
Symptom:
• The HMI (Human Machine Interface) and/or bargraph flashes and goes black upon
wakeup.
• The HMI and/or bargraph stays black upon power recycling.
• The generator is shutdown and cannot start.
Root Cause:
• The HMI and/or bargraph is off due to a defective built-in resistor.
Verification/Confirmation
Inspect the generator set to determine if a replacement is needed.

1. Check the Generator Serial Number in Service Instructions to see if the generator
is affected.
2. Check the Part Number in Service Parts Availability to see if the generator
contains the affected HMI/bargraph.
3. Check the Part Serial Number under the barcode on top of the
affected HMI/bargraph, and see if the Date Code (last four digits) is 8HXX, 8IXX, or
8JXX.
a. If so, please order a replacement with the same part number.
b. If not, no further check is needed, thus no parts need to be replaced/repaired.

Upon receiving the replaced parts, inspect the replacement.
1. Check the Date Code (last four digits in the Part Serial Number) on top of the
replaced parts.
a. If the Date Code is 8HXX, 8IXX, or 8JXX, then check if the replaced parts have
yellow-dot sticker on the parts.
◾ The yellow sticker could be in front of the part in upper left corner or on
top of it.
◾ Don’t install the replacement if without a yellow-sticker.

b. If the Date Code is NOT 8HXX, 8IXX, or 8JXX, then proceed to next step with
no further check.
2. Perform the replacement in Service Instructions.

Resolution
• Replace the affected HMI and/or bargraph.
• No software change is needed.
Service Instructions
Replace the HMI/bargraph.
1. Shut down the generator set.
2. Isolate the power supply. (Lockout, tagout.)
a. Turn off and disconnect the battery charger (if equipped).
b. Disconnect the negative (-) cable from the battery first to prevent accidental
starting.
3. Remove the affected part from the generator set.
4. Install the replaced part to the generator set.
5. Connect with power supply.
Validate the HMI/bargraph functionality.
• Power cycle the generator.
• Check if the HMI/bargraph will light up.
