DEFECT DESCRIPTION:
Certain IC Bus® RE Series buses may have been built with the fan drive misaligned to
the fan drive gearbox resulting in possible wear of the splines on the gearbox shaft.
ELIGIBILITY:
This procedure applies ONLY to vehicles marked in the International® Service PortalSM
with FSC 18119. Also complete any other open campaigns listed on the Service Portal
at this time.

WORK INSTRUCTIONS
GOVERNMENT REGULATION: Engine fluid (oil, fuel, and coolant) may be a
hazard to human health and the environment. Handle all fluid and other
contaminated materials (such as filters and rags) in accordance with applicable
regulations. Recycle or dispose of engine fluids, filters, and other contaminated
materials according to applicable regulations.
WARNING! To prevent property damage, personal injury, and / or death, park
vehicle on hard flat surface, turn the engine off, set the parking brake, and install
wheel chocks to prevent the vehicle from moving in both directions.
WARNING! To prevent personal injury and / or death, always wear safe eye
protection when performing vehicle maintenance.
WARNING! To prevent property damage, personal injury, and / or death, keep
flames or sparks away from vehicle and do not smoke while servicing the
vehicle’s batteries. Batteries expel explosive gases.

1. Park vehicle on flat surface.
2. Shift transmission to Park or Neutral and set parking brake.
3. Turn ignition to Key OFF position.
4. Install wheel chocks.
5. Unlatch and open rear engine door.
6. Remove fan gearbox drive belt; refer to appropriate service manual for detailed
instructions.

7. Remove nuts (Figure 1, Item 1) and washers from backside of pulley hub.
8. Slide fan drive pulley off gearbox shaft until pulley contacts right-side support
bracket.
9. Push fan drive pulley hub onto fan gearbox shaft.
a. If fan drive pulley hub slides freely into fan drive pulley bracket, replace flat
washers with hardened washer and proceed to Step 15.
b. If fan drive pulley hub does not slide freely into fan drive pulley hub bracket,
proceed to Step 10.

10. Perform inspection on fan drive splines.
a. Visually inspect hub spline for sharp peaks (Figure 2, Item 1) and rounded
valleys (Figure 2, Item 2).
b. Using a pin gauge, ensure a 0.030-inch pin cannot be installed into any gap
between shaft and hub.
NOTE: If the fan drive splines pass the inspection but did not slide freely on the
gearbox shaft, the alignment procedure must be performed.
11. If fan drive splines pass inspection, proceed to Step 14. If fan drive splines fail
inspection, proceed to Step 12.
12. Remove radiator assembly; refer to appropriate service manual for detailed
instructions.
13. Replace fan drive, fan drive pulley hub, and support; refer to appropriate service
manual for detailed instructions.
NOTE: Failure to perform and / or follow alignment procedure according to the
service manual will result in part failure.
14. Perform alignment procedure; refer to appropriate service manual for detailed
instructions.

15. Secure fan drive pulley hub nuts.
16. Using a torque wrench, tighten fan drive pulley hub nuts to 24 lb-ft (33 N•m).
17. Install fan gearbox drive belt; refer to appropriate service manual for detailed
instructions.
18. Close and latch rear engine door.
19. Remove wheel chocks.

WARRANTY CLAIMS

Warranty claim expense is to be charged to Warranty. Claims are to be submitted in the
normal manner, making reference to Field Service Campaign 18119.
Section 7 of the Warranty Policy and Procedures Manual contains further information
related to the submission and processing of AFC / Recall claims.
As with all claim submissions, items acquired locally must be submitted in the “Other
Charges” tab. The cost of any bulk items (such as a bag of cable tie straps, roll of wire,
barrel of oil, or tube of silicone) should be prorated for the cost of the individual pieces /
amount used during each repair.
To make sure this important improvement is made in a timely manner, all claims for
18119 activity must be submitted by 13 December 2019 or within the normal warranty
period for the component, if after 13 December 2019.
