AUDIO SYSTEM AMPLIFIER(S) INOPERATIVE
MODEL
G12 (7 series)

SITUATION
The Audio Amplifier (AMP) and/or the Active Sound Design amplifier (ASD) may not function intermittently or
permanently.

CAUSE
The foam seals of the trunk water channel clips may be missing or damaged, allowing water to damage the
AMP or ASD.

CORRECTION
Inspect and replace any water channel clip with missing or damaged foam seals. Replace the AMP and/or the
ASD, if damaged by water ingress. Check wiring harness connectors/pins for corrosion
Its also important to verify that this issue was not caused by any prior repairs in this area.
For other possible related issues, please refer to SI B51 02 18.

Work time labor operation codes 65 10 009 and 51 00 001 are not considered a Main labor operations. Also,
since the “work time” FRU allowances to be claimed are specified, separate punch times are not required.
However, they still require an explanation on the repair order and in the claim comments section.
During the same workshop visit, if a vehicle also requires another Technical Campaign or repair that also
includes programming and encoding the control units, the programming procedure may only be invoiced one
time.
Programming and Encoding - Vehicle Control Units
A. The programming procedure automatically reprograms and encodes all vehicle control modules which do not
have the latest software i-level. If one or more control module failures occur “during” this programming
procedure:
• Please claim this “consequential” control module-related repair work under the defect code listed in this
bulletin with the applicable AIR/KSD2 labor operations.
Please explain this additional work (The why and what) on the repair order and in the claim comments section.
B. For control module failures that occurred “prior” to performing this programming procedure:
• When “covered” under an applicable limited warranty, claim this control module-related repair work using the
applicable defect code and labor operations (including diagnosis) in AIR/KSD2.
Additional Related Repairs
If additional related repair work is performed as a direct result of the issue described in this Service Informaton
bulletin, claim this additional repair work with defect code listed above and applicable labor operations that are
listed in the AIR/KSD2.

If other eligible and covered work is performed as a result performing ISTA diagnostics and the related test

plans, claim this other repair work with applicable defect code and labor operations (including diagnosis) that
are listed in the AIR/KSD2.
Overlapping Labor Procedure
If invoicing the KSD2/AIR flat rate labor operation codes for other repair work results in overlapping labor, for
those flat rate labor operations that are affected, you are able to:
• Replace the stated KSD2 “FRU allowance” with a “reduced FRU value” to eliminate the overlapping labor.
For help in identifying the overlapping labor, please refer to the AIR FRU Plausibility Check (Overlapping Labor
Tool) that is located in the AIR Client.
Eligible other repair work being claimed under a different defect code will require separate punch times.
On the repair order and in the claim comment section, please identify and itemize those labor operations being
claimed with a “reduced FRU value.”

Water leak in luggage compartment repair attachment

Procedure:
In case of customer complaint, perform a vehicle test and work through corresponding test
modules for the amplifier(s).

1. Remove left side cover
inside trunk and inspect
Amplifier(s) for water
infiltration
2. Was corrosion or water
ingress of the trunk
found?
Yes: Proceed to step 3
to remove both water
channels.
No: Continue
diagnostics for audio
system
3. Unclip both water
channels using special
tool 0 496 569 (00 9
325).

4. With both water channels
removed, inspect the
foam sealing rings of all
4 retaining clips for
damage.

5. If any retaining clip seals
are damaged or missing,
replace the clips.

6. Check the clips (1) and
guides (2) on the water
channels for damage. If
water channel clips are
damaged, the water
channel must be
replaced.

7. Clip in both water
channels.

8. If corrosion damage was
found to the amplifier(s),
inspect the luggage
compartment to ensure
there is no additional
damage from water
ingress.
9. Leak test the vehicle to
ensure no water is
leaking into the luggage
compartment after
repairs.
