Nissan is conducting a quality action to rewire the black and blue wires in the male/female
connector of the T-Harness on 1,311 specific 2018 Kicks vehicles identified in Service
Comm. Due to a manufacturing issue that has since been corrected, the T-Harness wires
may be reversed which may cause the rear sonar accessory to be inoperable when the
headlamps are on.
Affected vehicles are not subject to stop sale and are either currently in dealer inventory or
assigned and in transit to the dealer. Nissan requests dealers to complete this repair prior to
sale to ensure customer satisfaction.
*****What Dealers Should Do*****
PLEASE FOLLOW THE ATTACHED REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Verify if vehicles are affected by this quality action using Service Comm or DBS
National Service History – Open Campaigns I.D. PM837.
 New vehicles in dealer inventory can also be identified using DBS (Sales->
Vehicle Inventory, and filter by Open Campaign).
 Refer to NPSB 15-460 for additional information
 Please continue to check newly arriving inventory for campaign
applicability.
2. Dealers should use the attached procedure to remedy any vehicle affected by this
quality action.
3. The service department should submit the applicable warranty claim for the action
performed so it can be closed on Service Comm and release the vehicle.

It is the dealer’s responsibility to check Service Comm or DBS National Service History –
Open Campaign using the appropriate campaign I.D for the inspection status on each
affected vehicle currently in new vehicle inventory.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

CAUTION: Handle interior trim carefully to avoid damage. Work with clean hands and
clean tools to avoid dirt and stains. Position clean suitable covering in the vehicle where
work is being performed. Perform repairs in a clean working area on a soft surface,
such as a fender cover, cardboard, etc.

IMPORTANT: Follow all cautions, warnings, and notes in the Electronic Service Manual
(ESM) when working on or near a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), such as an air
bag.
1. Turn the ignition ON.

2. Write down the audio settings.

3. Turn OFF the ignition.

4. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

5. Wait at least three (3) minutes before continuing.

6. Remove the straps from the back door,
and then remove the parcel shelf finisher
(Figure 1).

7. Remove the two (2) driver side luggage
side lower finisher clips with a suitable
plastic trim tool (Figure 2).

8. Unfasten the two (2) driver side luggage
side upper finisher clips (Figure 3).

9. Remove the two (2) 10 mm bolts
securing the driver side rear combination
lamp (Figure 4).
10. Grab the combination lamp, and then
carefully pull it off the vehicle body.


The combination lamp is fastened to
the vehicle body by the 2 bolts and 2
push pins.
NOTE: The push pins are part of the
combination lamp.

11. Disconnect the combination lamp
harness connector, and then remove
the combination lamp (Figure 5).

NOTE: Place combination lamp in area
were it will not be scratched or
damaged.

NOTE: To keep the orientation of the combination lamp harness connector consistent,
hold it with the lock at the top.
12. Remove the retainer by inserting a suitable pick in the notched hole and carefully
prying out (Figure 6).

13. Remove the terminals of the blue and black wires from the combination lamp harness
connector.
 Using a suitable pick, pry inward on the locking tabs, and then pull out the wires from
the harness side of the connector. A flashlight may help see the tabs better.
 The right side locking tab in Figure 7 is shown in the unlocked position.
NOTE: The color of the blue wire in Figure 8 is enhanced for easier viewing. Normally,
it is the same shade of blue as the other blue wires.

14. Insert the black wire where the blue wire was positioned (Figure 9, 10).


A slight audible click is heard when the terminal locks in place. Tug on the wire to
make sure the terminal is locked in.

15. Insert the blue wire where the black wire was positioned (Figure 9, 10).


make sure the terminal is locked in.

NOTE: The color of the blue wire in Figure 9 and Figure 10 is enhanced for easier
viewing. Normally, it is the same shade of blue as the other blue wires.

16. Install the retainer with a suitable pair of
needle nose pliers or equivalent
(Figure 11).

17. Locate the foam wrapped inside
harness connector shown in Figure 12.


This connector will be rewrapped and
fastened in the same position during
assembly. Remember its position.

18. Using a suitable cutting tool, cut the
“wire tie”, and then peel off the foam
from the inside connector (Figure 13).
NOTE: Figure 13 shows the inside
connector with foam and “wire tie”
removed.

19. Disconnect the inside connector
(Figure 14).
NOTE:


Perform repairs to the circled
connector, not the connector with the
red “X” (see Figure 14).

20. Remove the retainer by inserting a suitable pick in the notched hole and carefully
prying out (Figure 16,17).

21. Remove both terminals of the blue and black wires from the connector.
 Using a suitable pick, pry inward on the locking tabs, and then pull out the wires from
the harness side of the connector (Figure 18, 19). A flashlight may help see the tabs
better.


22. Insert the black wire where the blue wire was positioned (Figure 20, 21).


24. Insert the retainer using a suitable pair
of needle nose pliers (Figure 22).
CAUTION: Make sure none of the pins
are bent.

25. Reconnect the inside connector,
connect “Connecter A” to “Connector B”
as shown in Figure 23.


26. Using a new piece of Adhesive Foam
(See Parts Information) wrap the
(inside connector) as shown in
Figure 24.


Use a new wire tie, fasten in the same
position as before disassembly
(Figure 24).

27. Connect the combination lamp harness

combination lamp push pins to install
the combination lamp (Figure 26).


28. Install the two (2) 10mm bolts securing
the drivers side combination lamp
(Figure 27).


Torque the combination lamp bolts to
4.4 Nm (0.54 kg-m, 39 in lbs)

29. Align and fasten the two (2) driver side
luggage side upper finisher clips
(Figure 28).

side lower finisher clips (Figure 29).

31. Install the parcel shelf finisher and install
the straps from the back door
(Figure 30).

32. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

33. Operate the rear sonar system, verify it
works properly with the headlamps ON
and OFF.

34. Reset/reinitialize systems as needed.

