CONDITION SUMMARY:
SITUATION:
A noise from the underneath of the vehicle may be evident. The noise is most prominent during light
throttle and low speed (for example: during car park maneuvers) and is independent of ambient
temperature range. Under these conditions, a low-level, non-constant cyclical-type noise can be heard
coming from the Center Exhaust system (Exhaust Valve) adjacent to the fuel tank.
CAUSE:
This may be caused by a contact noise that is being emitted by the interaction of the first two gears
internal to the exhaust valve located on the Center Exhaust Pipe assembly.
ACTION:
Should a customer express this concern, follow the Workshop Procedure below.

Remove exhaust system rear left and right silencers (see TOPIx Workshop Manual section 30900: Exhaust System -- Removal and Installation -- Rear Silencer).

Disconnect the exhaust valve electrical connector and release from the bracket.

CAUTION:
The exhaust system must be supported with suitable retaining straps.
Release the center exhaust clamp.

If the existing center exhaust pipe has a mass damper, remove and retain it for
installation to the new center exhaust pipe (Step 5).
Remove and discard the center exhaust pipe.
1 Only if required: remove and retain the mass damper.

Corrosion and/or dirt must be removed from the mating surfaces.

Install the new center exhaust pipe.
1 Only if required: install the mass damper to the new center exhaust pipe.

Tighten the center exhaust pipe clamp.
Torque: 55Nm

Connect the exhaust valve electrical connector and install on to the bracket.

Install the exhaust system rear left and right silencers removed in Step 1 (see TOPIx Workshop
Manual section 309-00: Exhaust System -- Removal and Installation -- Rear Silencer).
